“I appreciate the staff and teachers for allowing the parents to visit for the day. We appreciate all you
all do every day. Thank you.”
“I enjoy being able to spend the day with my son and experience a day in his school life. I appreciate
the opportunity!”
“I think the teachers all did an amazing job. Everything was fun and engaging. The only negative
thing I could possibly say is I wish ___________ had more discipline.”

education. Overall this event was very organized and informative.”

community. Great Job!!”
“Wonderful experience, maybe more attention to misbehaved students.”
“I truly believe today was a great experience not only for me but for my son. I was like going back in
time and remembering when I was in school. Students are respectful and really smart. Kudos to all
the staff! I hope we can do this again. God Bless!”
“Great Job Staff”
“I really enjoyed Mr. Walzel’s Math class and Advisory and Mr. Simpson’s science class. Amazing

“Thank you for all you do for my child 😊 Ms. Mango”
“This was lots of fun and the teachers did a great job not putting on a show for parents. Got to see my
child learning in her true setting. Thank you, CPMS staff.”
“Love it!!”
“This activity was really nice. Gave me an inside look at the routine and classwork flow my child does
daily. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive learning approach. It’s certainly not overwhelming,
engaging.”
“I appreciate the offer of tutoring. My student feels that tutoring helps.”
This was a great concept that allows parents to get more involved in their children’s lives. Ultimately
it increases the communication lines, having the children feel that parents to have an understanding
of what takes place during the school day.”
“This was a wonderful experience and a great tool that can be utilized to reinforce good behavior and
gauge how to influence our children’s willingness/readiness to learn.”

presentation. This teacher method is outstanding.”
“Love 6th grade math every year!”

awesome.”

“Had a BLAST! THANK YOU! Wish it could be more than once a year.”
“Almost all teachers were awesome. Thanks for having us.”
“This was a very informative day that truly gave me an insight on what takes place with my child in
the 6th grade. More campuses need to incorporate this even, in Middle Schools! You have a fabulous
campus and 6th grade staff!! Keep it up!”
“😊”
“More parent interaction.”
“Thanks again for all. It was a long day but very fruitful. Please I think 6 th grade should allow to
snack at some point during the day.”
“Classroom too much talking and cannot hear teacher. Some class only 12 or 10. Some class to many
for one teacher other students do not get help.”
“Let students with visiting parents leave class one minute early to avoid hallway congestion.”
“Some of the teachers go pretty fast through the lessons, my child was able to keep up, so I wonder if
all the students could keep up. Boys rest rooms smell like urine as soon as I walked in. Outstanding
staff, I learned a lot.”
“The 6th grade class takes lunch to early. They need a snack like at 2.30 pm. No bully policy has to
really be enforced.”
“Advisory teacher did not move from seat. Read from projector. I was falling asleep.”
“As a 3 year parent here at CPMS I can only say every year it gets better. Very sad that this is my
son’s last year. History Mr. Quincy, wow great student engagement and way to teach. Math Mr.
Kirshner Andrew amazing way to teach and interact with students. Ms. Kidd’s class was lots of fun.
Great way to teach vocabulary. ELA Ms. Vire. Very dynamic teaching. Lots of student engagement.

Ms. Trevino should be giving training to all KISD school principals. As a parent I have once more
experienced here at CPMS, great learning, care for students and their safety. Keep it up CAVS!”
“Ms. Hubbard is the best!! Awesome, thank you for the opportunity.”
“Mr. Bryan (Band), Mrs. Patterson (Science) and Mr. Edwards (Math): These three teachers made the
short class periods fun. They kept the attention of the children 100% of the time, which we know is
hard to do 😊 Great teachers who make learning fun and take the time to help the kids when they
have questions or problems.”
“Looking forward to next walk in my shoes day. Joseph Schlaudraff is an excellent teacher. Great
asset to the organization.”
“Mr. Edwards was awesome 😊 Everyone is great! Mr. Edwards was awesome 😊”
“All the teachers I met today brought their “A” game. I thought Ms. Kujan made class fun and made
studying for a test competitive and rememberable. Ms. Patterson was also awesome with today’s
Science experiment. Then Ms. Asgari shared her fun “mystery video”. It’s apparent that this campus
has amazing teachers who are keeping the curriculum interactive. Thank you for allowing me to
attend today.”
“The level of care and concern for the students is special. Olivia definitely feels loved and cared for.
The staff goes beyond “being here”. It’s obvious how much they care. I’ll miss her being here. A. Wintz”
“I was only able to stay for 3 periods but the teachers were awesome. If I would’ve known sooner, I
could’ve taken the whole day! Great experience.”
“This was great!! I can’t wait till next year!!”
“Loved being able to see what she does in school.”
“I enjoyed getting to see what the kids are learning in class. It also allows me to keep on top of my kid

should add the activity in their calendar.”

“Thank you for having us. I liked being able to see my daughter interact with other students, her
teachers. My daughter not only learns at this school but I saw that she made a lot of friends, has a
good support system and enjoys school.”
“I enjoyed it and look forward to doing it next year.”
“Some classes seemed to be too loud and out of order.”
“I appreciate this opportunity to understand and live what my daughter experiences every day. As
parents sometimes, we underestimate their day as students. It is fast pace and kind of crazy but a lot
needs to be done in one day.”
“Maybe do an advisory schedule on how to deal with/understand people with autism and social
awkwardness. It’s not bad, but there is some picking on of people who are socially awkward/slightly
different/autistic.”
“The system and processes that are used at Patterson are working well”
“Everyone was very helpful including the students as we walked the hallways. They were supportive
and patient.”
“This is my second time having the opportunity to participate. I love getting to do this. I am an
elementary school teacher and I enjoy seeing the older kids. I did feel the lessons were engaging.
Science with Mr. Simpson was a blast. I dissected a frog in high school and was overjoyed to get this to
do again with my daughter. Mr. Castillo did the GRR in math. I was impressed. Halls are definitely
crowded but teachers and admins were present and monitoring, which makes me feel confident about
my daughter transferring to this school. Mr. Nicholas has a knack for discipline and building
relationships. Those guys don’t waste a second of class time.”
“Not much time between classeshardly anyone uses their lockers or has time to. Teachers are very
patient with all kids…many who have varied learning abilities.”
“I love Walk in my Shoes. It’s wonderful, best thing to come up with for bonding between the students
and their parents. In the school, the kids’ faces light up when parents walk in.”
“This is something the school should do more often. Thank you!”
“Caple’s Class I loved how the parents worked with the students to do skits on characteristics. So
much fun! We all had a blast.
Walzel’s class I was impressed how engaged the students were despite it being a math class. The
teacher was able to capture student’s attention and keep them engaged! Wow!
Horner’s class It was very significant how this teacher allowed the class to read the persuasive text
as a group and asked for the student’s annotation. This helped the students dive into each paragraph
and be able to make it relevant to them. I loved that her student’s felt comfortable to speak and when
the students were incorrect, no one laughed. There was a lot of respect in this class.
Simpson’s class During science class the students and parents dissected a frog. When I was in Junior
High, my lab partner did this for our table. Needless to say, I was extremely grateful for my Proxy, a
guy named Lane. Mr. Simpson made this assignment engaging, inviting and the kids loved it. It was
spectacular to see the kids excited to learn.
Nicholas’ class The choir director worked very hard to keep the students engaged. They seemed to
like it a lot. It was lovely! Great Job!

Robert’s class I loved how Coach Roberts allowed her students to drink water before and after gym
class. Thank you! Her students were motivated and did well. They stayed on task and worked really
hard!
Advisory (Ms. Wirges) the stories that she shared with the classes were fantastic! She had the
students laughing and completely involved in the conversation.
Sims class This teacher used pictures to create discussion from students. Successfully made them
dissect the meaning and to determine the point of view of the artist. The students did a great job on
their interpretation of the paintings and managed to find or interpret new items that the teacher did
not see. She praised them for that and was so encouraging!”
“It was a great experience! I learned that my child learns and has fun. Way different from when I was
in school. I love it!”
“All the teachers and staff were great! Absolutely love the positive atmosphere!”
“Thank you for the great day. You all have the patience of a saints.”
“Happy you do this every year! Thank you!”
“Loved all of this! This was very insightful. Loved seeing my daughter in her routine.”
“I really enjoyed my experience.”
“Love the kahoots the teachers did but maybe encourage to have the parents have a fully charged
phone/ or bring cords by the later half of the day. It was hard to participate because the phone died
from so much use! Love this experience. Thank you for allowing parents to be involved with our kids
our world needs the partnership and I am glad that CPMS recognizes it.”
“Transition from portables into the school has light supervision.”
“________________ is about as responsive in person as he is through email. He is brash and was rude,
and has yet to return a single email of mine. The rest of the staff is amazing.”
“While I enjoy some teachers’ passion. There’s one class very partial to one minority. I believe learning
about all historians, not just black people. It does look very onesided and I believe it does discourage
some when a teacher only pays attention to one minority. This was a history class. There are many
disrespectful students in my child’s ________ class. Many are football players. It was very upsetting to
sit in this class.”
“Mr. Edwards seems like a stellar instructor!! My daughter’s fave class along with preathletics. I saw
a lot of jostling and pushing in the halls like some kids are not touching spare body parts. And when
my kid went to the bathroom she left her backpack in the hall UNATTENDED! Who does this? I will
tell her to have a trusted person watch it for her or take it to class.”
“My daughter was very curious to see if ________ would play the same music during _______ when
parents were there she said it was different. Other days inappropriate language was included.”
“Attention is needed in the restrooms. There was no hand soap in the 300 hallway. Also, the lunch
options are unpleasing.”
“I feel that the kids need more time during passing periods, they don’t have enough time to go to the
restroom and some teachers don’t allow them to go after they enter the class.”
“Encountered interaction between Teacher Aide ________ in __________’s class, with several students
that was very unsettling – she was rude, harsh and her tone and demeanor was inappropriate for

what we have experienced with CPMS. Another parent pointed out that there was a certain lack of
cultural diversity around ____________ classroom. Most interaction with staff and students, otherwise,
were pleasant and enjoyable.”
“The hallway sea of students was frightening. Ms. Miller’s Bingo with parents was best activity of the
day. ________ fails to be in control of the ___________class dynamics. Some teachers did not welcome
us into class. Ignored us. Overheard a few teachers discuss how they dislike this event. Some teachers
engaged parents. _________’s class was very offputting. An aide, ________, greeted the room with
inappropriate tones and behaviors. I wasn’t sure if I was in middle school _________ class or the
detention center for juveniles. His/Her behavior did not line up with my experience with CPMS or the
behaviors of children at the time in the classroom. Moreover, another parent pointed out to us
parents, which I had already noticed, the LACK of cultural diversity on the walls! Throughout History
there were many, many leaders of Ethnic races that shaped our history not just African Americans.
Can’t they be included on the walls for discussion. Us parents counted 1 White, 0 Hispanic, 0 French,
0 British – yet they are discussing the Revolutionary! Guess how many African Americans?”
“Why were we asked these questions? Q.1 Teachers conducted very little to learn. If the
administration helps create the environment, yet allows learning to not take place, what good is this?
Q. 2 Showed me how the system is flawed terribly. Q. 3 I am more concerned with knowledge being
imparted. Engagement is only to be considered in the mode of teaching. Why is your focus on
engagement? Q. 4 This is mores irrelevant. We’re here to be shadows of our children and I found
mostly teachers greeted us and then ignored us parents as they should have. I felt more allowed to be
here. Q. 5 My child said he doesn’t feel any more or less safe here than he does in live overall.
Continued on the back: In Language Arts teacher talked about persuasive arguments. Asked then
what was used as a text structures (i. e. Pathos, Ethos, Cause & Effect) then she said, “There is no
right answer” – this subject is not being taught. There are right answers. Texas History spent very
little time any history facts. Most time was spend writing opinions about the little knowledge
imparted. Direct quote from teacher “We are going to become great writers in this class” – not the
class subject. Is Texas History being taught or Language Arts? We were there, the answer is no. A
historic text was used, but had to do with world history (Regan’s “Tear Down this Wall” speech). Math
and Science were excellent. Advisory went well. Teen Leadership – also excellent.”
