SEAQIS Research Publication on Simposium Nasional Inovasi dan Pembelajaran Sains 2017

In 2017 SEAQIS developing the new research instrument about implementation of practice based
science learning at secondary school. The aim of this study is to collect the authentic data about
science practice that already done by the teacher in secondary school in Jayapura City and Gowa
Regency. We did this research based on the understanding that science can more meaningful to learn
if the students try to get the information by them self. One of the way to reach it is by implementing
practice/ experiment on science learning process.

From the brief chat with several teachers, we gathered the information that implementing practice/
experiment on science learning process is challenging due to a lot of constraints. However, the
accurate data about this problem had never explore yet. Owing to lack of the data, SEAQIS had a
initiative to collect the quantitative data about how much teacher on secondary school did a
experiment on science learning on a fiscal year and what is the exact constraints of practice based
science learning implementation in learning process.

Ms. Lintang Ratri Prastika and Ms. Adella Anfidina Putri has selected as the person in charge for
conducting this research with the guidance from Prof. Triyanta and Mr. Reza Setiawan. Started in
March, the instrument of this research was spread on April 2017 to the Secondary School teachers in
Jayapura City and Gowa Regency simultaneously with SEAQIS In-Country Training on the both region.

The data shows, 46.34% resepondents from Jayapura City and 50.00% respondents from Gowa
regency conducted a science practice 4-6 times/ FY in the domination of biology-related experiment.
The respondents also stated that the main constraints for implementing practice based science
learning in school is time limitation, difficulties in operating experiment tools and incompetencies to
design a students guide for science practice.

The data result from both region then analysed and presented on Simposium Nasional Inovasi dan
Pembelajaran Sains (SNIPS) 2017 at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). SNIPS 2017 held on Wednesday,
26 July until Thursday, 27 July 2017. There was two keynote speakers on that Seminar, Mr. Maman
Budiman, P.hd. from ITB who was speak about Internet of Thinks and Dr. Andi Suhandi who was speak
about Misconception of Science Learning Process.

SEAQIS’s team presented their research on Thursday afternoon and gain a positive response from the
spectators due to the new finding on practice based science learning in eastern part of Indonesia.
From this disseminating, hoped a lot of teacher, lecturer and education personnel get an overview of
various obstacles of the implementation of practice based science learning in schools and be able to
suggest an improvement of practice based science learning in the future.
