INTRODUCTION
Context and Rationale
absence. In the context of the school it is the habitual or intentional failure from going
to school. It cannot be denied that every now and then, students may miss some
school activities and lessons. But it becomes a problem if the student will be away
parents and the society in general, as well as for the pupils in particular. Unaccepted
absence has a negative effect on peer relationship which could cause absence.
According to Malcolm, Wilson, Davidson and Kirk (2003) teachers identified effects of
which could lead to boredom, loss of confidence. Also, prolonged absence can have
deleterious effects for the child in later life. Students who are absent from school are
Research Questions

in Grade -10 in San Miguel National Comprehensive High School.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

RESEARCH METHODS
This chapter presents the discussion of research method used by the
researcher in conducting the whole study. It consists of the following components:
research design, sampling, data collection, ethical issues, and data analysis.
A. Research Design
This study used a quantitative research. Most quantitative research falls into
two areas: studies that describe events and studies aimed at discovering inferences
or causal relationships. Quantitative approach also employed to determine the
significant difference of learners’ reading performance in school before and after the
collaborative reading strategy conducted every day by the teacher.
B.Sampling
This study used the RDORI form recommended by the district and division of Surigao
del Sur. Majority of them revealed that their level of performance from frustration to
Instructional and even up to Independent level was attained.
C. Data Collection
The conduct of action research started with the approval of the District
Supervisor prior to the purpose of the researcher, After the approval, the researcher
as the school head called for a faculty meeting where one of the agenda was to
discuss the status of the reading performances of the Grade-7 learners. Agreement
was made. Data on learners reading performance were recorded in the RDORI forms.
D. Ethical Issues
The researcher asked the approval from the District Supervisor to conduct an
action research from July, 2017 to October, 2017. After the letter was approved, the
researcher started to call for a COP meeting with Communication teachers in the
school as company in conducting a collaborative reading strategy every day. There
were agreements like undergoing collaborative techniques in reading every day and
monitor the progress on the level of performance twice a month.
E. Data Analysis
The study utilized the quantitative statistics in describing the level of reading
performance of learners in Grade-7.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the result and discussion of the findings of the study. The
findings of this study were presented in order to answer the research questions stated
in chapter 1.
The table 1 below presents the percentage on the level of reading performance
before and after the collaborative techniques in reading.
Table 1. Percentage of the level of reading performance before and after the
collaborative techniques in reading everyday.
The result implies that parents’ involvement remarkably helped the students
improve their attendance in school.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter presents the conclusion and recommendation of the study which
plays an important role in producing possible solution to the problem.
Conclusion
The following can be inferred based on the findings of the study
1. For the students with less interest in ready every day, teachers are
are encouraged to conduct reading in a collaborative techniques to attract
learners to participate actively.
2. For the teachers who has related problem, they can use the strategy to
conduct reading everyday to his learners as a method of improving learners
level of reading performance.
