STRENGTHS
The college has a strong and active staff council which assists the principal in
administrative and academic activities and in maintaining discipline.
Adequate infrastructure, well-equipped labs and ICT aided teaching–learning process and
INFLIBNET access in the College Library along with Internet connections in all the
Departments has strengthened the learning process.

and skill through various staff development programmes and the individual care and
support rendered by them for the students through counseling and mentoring is a real
blessing for the college.
A good number of faculty members are involved in major and minor research projects
which have promoted research culture in the college campus.
WEAKNESS
As most of our students are first generation learners hailing from the fisher folk
community, a lot of effort is required to make the teaching learning process effective
Despite repeated efforts by the college, we have not received the sanction to start any
regular PG courses.
OPPURTUNITIES
Scholarships and cash prizes instituted by the College, for the economically poor students
and the cash prizes instituted by the alumni faculties help and encourage the students to
overcome financial constraints and this becomes an incentive for improvement in the
studies.
CHALLENGES
Majority of the students have their basic education in Malayalam language and lack fluency
in English language which puts an extra strain and effort for the faculties to overcome the
problem to achieve a good result.
Owing to great demand for all the courses, the college is forced to admit students beyond
the sanctioned strength through marginal increase.
The college continues to explore other opportunities for introducing additional courses at
the PG level

The Practice :-
Interested and highly motivated students from the college are selected after a series of tests
and interviews and are given basic training for the Instruction process. They are taught to
prepare a simple lesson plan to aid in the teaching process. By means of simple charts,
ideas were absorbed by the young learners. The classes were highly attended as the
methods used were appealing and also interactive. Students from our college who
participated in this process include Jemima John of D.C -1 Communicative English , Ann
Priya Noble of D.C -1 Literature and Arya Alvernez also of D.C -1 Literature. The students
from our college opted to teach the lower primary classes of St.Mary’s H.S.S, Vettucaud
during the academic year (2013-2014) . They engaged the target batch in a variety of
interesting sessions with the topics ranging from simple to complex .They discussed
various pertinent topics such as adjectives, nouns, verbs, pronouns, articles and
prepositions. The effectiveness of the classes was measured in terms of how the students of
the target batch responded to the conversations and interactive sessions.
The students of St.Marys’ H.S.S , Vettucaud greatly benefited from the interactive sessions
in grammar conducted by the students of All Saints’ college under the aegis of the teachers
of the Department of English . They were evaluated at the end of the sessions and the
results showed a marked improvement in their grammatical abilities. As the results were
quite good, it was decided that the practice could be continued at regular intervals by
different batches of college students. The students of St.Mary’s H.S.S , Vettucaud also
evince great interest in the study of English grammar and seemed keen on continuing the
sessions in the coming terms also.
Resources Required :-
The practice required only minimal resources as the teachers and students of the college
were very enthusiastic about the practice. The college Management provided ample Travel
Allowance (TA) for the students and teachers involved. The three students along with the
teachers of the department of English comprised the manpower of the endeavour. The Staff
and Administration at the St.Marys’ H.S.S , Vettucaud were also enthusiastic and
supportive towards the programme. They made the necessary arrangements for our students
to conduct the Remedial Teaching sessions in a hassle free environment.
society to find an easy alternate method of self employment and to enable them to become
self sufficient and emancipated.
The Practice :-
The practice was a year long programme which involved the setting up of a Kitchen
Garden in a few selected houses at the Karikkakam Ward near All Saints’ College.
Kudumbasree members of Unit 1 of the Karikkakam Ward were present during the
endeavour to help the selected women from the locality understand the process of self
employment. More than 40 students, 12 Kudumbasree members and several women from
the nearby Panchayat attended the programme. Two agricultural experts from the
Agricultural Department, Kudappanakkunnu were the resources persons. Mini C. L,
Agricultural Officer and Mr. Binulal, Coordinator, Agricultural Department,
Kudappanakkunnu, took classes on ‘How to raise a vegetable Garden and the
importance of organic farming’. Vegetable saplings and seeds of various vegetables like
Brinjal, Tomato, Cabbage, Beetroot and Chillies were distributed to the women,
Kudambasree members and students.
The women were ready to accept the new form of self employment which enabled them to
pursue their day-to-day activities alongside the demands of the Kitchen garden. They were
made aware of the benefits of pesticide free organic vegetables and the high demand for
them in today’s agricultural market. The idea of earning an additional income for the
family and being independent was also an added attraction of the programme.
Resources Required :-
Vegetable seeds, bio-manure and other natural fertilizers were provided for the women
along with instructions on how to use them. Travel Allowance, gifts for the Resource
persons along with funding for procuring the vegetable saplings and manure was provided
by the management.
