2018 ALGOA & IOA Organic Training

March, 19th ~ 22th, 2018

ALGOA or the “Asian Local Governments for Organic Agriculture” was established by IFOAM
Asia in September 2015 to promote the full adoption of organic farming practices in Asia and to
increase networking among local governments in Asia and the private sector involved in organic
farming. Currently, there are more than 55 members in 16 countries in Asia. Annual events include
the ALGOA Summit and the Organic Foundation Course.

The 2018 ALGOA & IOA Organic Training is a training program on organic agriculture offered to
local government officials, NGO staffs, Private sectors, farmer organization in Indonesia. This
training is held by Indonesia Organic Alliance (IOA) and IFOAM Asia as part of the ALGOA project.

This training will be combined with one day of Roundtable Discussion on March 19th in Jakarta.
Then will be continue in Bandung, West Java on 20-22 March 2018. The Roundtable Discussion will
be attended by around 50 participants consists of local government officers, the ministry of trade,
the ministry of agriculture, organic association, organic exporters, organic traders, and journalists.
The discussion will be guided by Sabastian Saragih (Advisory Board of Biofach Southeast Asia) to
map the readiness and constraints faced, then jointly seek solutions so that there is conclusion of
concrete steps to strengthen exports of organic products.

The Roundtable Discussion is part of ALGOA & IOA training for participants. After joint the
Roundtable Discussion, participant will continue joint the training that will be held in Bandung.
Training will cover topic about history, philosophy and principle of organic agriculture, organic value
chain, organic guarantee system, organic agriculture movement & networking, and field visit on
organic farm and market.

This training is limited to 25 participants. IOA will select participants if the registration is more than
25 applicants. IOA will prioritize participant who has knowledge, action plan and leadership related
organic agriculture on their activities. IOA will charge participants for participation fee. All
participants will receive a “Certificate of Completion” on the successful completion of the training.
For the “best” participants can be promoted to joint IFOAM Asia & ALGOA training in advanced
level.

• The practice of organic farming and marketing
• Build relationships, networks and cross-sector alliances;

What are the Core Competencies Acquired by Participants?

The Organic Training follows a holistic approach, allowing participants to develop:


1. Knowledge, e.g. facts about Organic Agriculture,
2. Skills, e.g. sound technology transfer know-how;
3. Attitude, e.g. a commitment for sustainable and ethical development personality.

A variety of methods are used to facilitate learning at different level (theory, reflection and feeling
organic way of life), as well as learning with and from each other.

What are the Requirements for Participation?

1. Deadlines: All participants must submit the application by the due date (see below for
deadlines)
2. Language: All participants can understand and speak English, since part of the session will
be given in English.
3. Activity Plan : All participants must submit an activity report/plan to share their experiences
within the organic sector.

Venue of the Seminar and Training

The seminar will take place at the Ministry of Trade Jl. M. I. Ridwan Rais, No. 5 , Center Jakarta
10110, Indonesia. Participant is requested to arrive in seminar place on Monday, March 19th, 2018
morning (08.30 am). After seminar all participant will be continue the training to Bandung until March
22nd, 2018. Training place will be in Yayasan Sahabat Lingkungan Hidup (Eco Camp) Jl. Pakar Barat
(Dago) No.3 Bandung 40399 (https://www.ecolearningcamp.org). This is simple and quite place where we
can learn about nature including organic farming.
