Thursday, January 25, 2018 RAM First Meeting from 0800-0900

Today was our first meeting for the RAM Missions Trip to Buena Vista, Va. It was a meet and
greet meeting. Dr Perkins and Dr Turner from the college discussed their experiences from past
RAM trips to Wise,Va. and to Grundy, Va. The interesting thing that I learned today is everyone
will get a number and each of these patients will receive medical care but then have to choose
between vision and dental. I'm so excited about being a part of the first trip at MRMC and I am
ready to serve and touch people's lives.

Saturday, February 24, 2018, Second RAM Meeting from 0800-0845

This was our second meeting for the RAM trip. A lot was discussed at our meeting. It was
informative about the three surrounding counties in which we will serve with detailed
information relating to average annual income and approximate totals without health insurance.
Many people in the poverty levels.
Our itinerary was discussed for the 3 days- February 9-11th, 2018. As a group, we are wearing
OR scrub bottoms for pants and Bon Secours t-shirts. Recommended to wear comfortable shoes
and take only the essentials such as stethoscope with your name marked on it so that it does not
get misplaced, bring a watch with a second hand and a blood pressure cuff if available. Breakfast
and Lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. It is recommended that each person bring
extra money for lunch and dinner on Friday and for dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Also, bring
snacks and a water bottle as we will be at the site for most of the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday, March 9, 2018 First Day of RAM Trip from 0930- 2000

First Day of RAM Trip. Met at MRMC. Prayer Service before leaving. Arrived in Buena Vista.
Ate Lunch. Went to RAM site, registered and help set up. Toured RAM site. Met with RAM
Lead and Nurse Practitioner in Triage and got instructions as to what I would be doing.

Saturday, March 10, 2018 Second Day of RAM Trip from 0415-1615

Second Day of RAM Trip. Worked in Triage. Assessed patient's blood pressures, blood sugars,
heart rates, health history. Talked with patients. Interacted and networked with other nursing
students and nurses.

1730-1800 Debriefing Meeting to discuss what happened during the day and how things went the
first day.

Sunday, March 11, 2018 Third Day of RAM Trip from 0430-1100

Worked in Triage again doing the same things. Had a more meaningful day with the patients and
observations. I really enjoyed interacting with patients. Observed one patient miss her step and
fell obtaining a potential hip fracture, as her leg was shortened and externally rotated. This was
completely awful and devastating. She had just had 12 teeth extracted and was leaving. Instead
had to be taken away in an ambulance.

Thursday, March 15, 2018 Final RAM Meeting 1700- 1745

Last RAM meeting. Met with everyone from our trip to follow up to see how things went and
slide picture presentation shown. Wonderful and meaningful trip. Touched many lives in free
medical care, dental and vision. Everyone stated that they would love to go on another trip.
Talking about future sites in Virginia because the one in Buena Vista, Virginia is only every
other year.
