Why Women Should Not Have an Abortion

Many women in the entire world have abortions. Women believe there are many

reasons to abort such as fear of having or raising a child, rape, or not having enough

money. But whatever the situation is, there is never an acceptable reason to get an

abortion. Some important reasons why women should not abort have to do with human

values and religious values. However, some women argue that this is against their

basic right.

The first reason why women should not have an abortion is related to basic

human values. Women need to think about their unborn babies who are not responsible

for this situation. These unborn babies should have the privilege to live and grow into a

normal person. Women need to be more humanitarian and less egoistic with these

babies. On the other hand, the baby does not know how or why he is here. It is not

necessary to kill a life; there are many other solutions to resolve this problem short of

abortion.

The second reason why women should not abort has to do with religious values.

In almost all religions, a woman is not permitted to have an abortion. If they do, their

religions will punish them. In some religions, for example, a woman cannot take

communion after having an abortion, and before taking communion again, she must do

many things as a form of penitence. In whatever religion, abortion is punished and for

this reason, women should not have an abortion.

On the other hand, some women believe that it is their right to have an abortion.

They believe that they should be given the freedom to choose what is best for them.

However, women who simply choose for abortion without valid medical reason will

never have a good life. This is because her conscience will remind her of what she has

done. Because a woman who has an abortion can’t forget about what she has done,

these thoughts will always be with her, and the results can be calamitous.

There are many reasons why women should not have an abortion. The truth is

that women need to think about the consequences that can occur before having sexual

relations. I think that the effects of an abortion can be very sad for everyone involved,

both for the woman who has the abortion and for the family who lives with her.

Part B (27 MARKS)

You are advised to spend about 45 minutes on this section. Read the essay below and answer

the questions that follow.

The Ugly Side of War

In most cases, war is considered as an ugly activity. This is because, in war there

are more damages caused, losses incurred and in other incidences life is lost. Just as

any other event, two possibilities are always predictable. In war, we may have both

positive and negative consequences although negative effects of war overweigh the

positive impacts. I strongly believe that war can lead to suffering and ruin the economy

of a country. However, some people believe that war has some major positive impact.

Firstly, when there is an outbreak of war in a certain region, citizens in that

country may end up suffering in many ways. The immediate effect likely to occur is the

internal displacement of countrymen. Some end up being refugees in their own country

or if lucky enough others fly to their neighbouring countries. In many places where wars

have been experienced even for a short period of time, death cases have been reported

too. Death may come as a result of massive killings during the war or death due to lack

of food, water, health services and so on and so forth.

War can make a country’s economic growth perish. This comes out as a result of

reduced production of goods and services by industries in that country. Foreign

investors tend to pull back or look for an alternative country where they can safely invest

in. There is no even a single day people could do their investment in a place full of war.

5

In consequence, people will be out of employment and businesses will fail as citizens do

not have enough money to purchase goods.

Apart from these negative aspects of war, there are people who believe that war

puts an end to colonization. It is through war that most people get peace. Furthermore,

in history during the World War I and II for example, it was peace that countries were

fighting for. Discriminations experienced from colonies actually came to an end because

war was started. Nonetheless, this came at a price as many people were killed in the

struggle for independence and countries were also fell into ruin as the infrastructure was

destroyed.

To sum up, war is rated as an ugly activity among other ugly aspects such as

hate, fear and cruelty although some people confidently say that there is no peace

without war. War does not justify the suffering of the people and economic devastation

that it causes. Without war, the world will be a better place to live in.
