aims to contribute to national development by
addressing our needs to increase the numbers of
researchers, scientists and engineers and develop
their skills and talents to produce quality
researches.

 The successful applicant awarded with the ERDT


Local Graduate Scholarship may be allowed to
defer his/her scholarship award for a maximum of
one (1) semester only (at the start of semester).

 If he/she fails to enroll after the deferment period


the scholarship award shall be automatically
forfeited.

TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE

 This is for air, sea, or land transportation


 A scholar who goes to school in a place outside from
his/her home region/city/province is entitled to one
roundtrip economy fare per academic year from
his/her permanent residence to the place of study
and vice-versa.
 This is on a reimbursement basis which shall be
claimed at the start and end of each academic
year.
 Scholars residing within NCR is not eligible for this
entitlement.

The grant is an assistance given to scholars for thesis/dissertation manuscript writing.

 The scholar who has completed all of his/her academic courses prescribed in the
program of study with good academic standing can request this grant.

 The scholar must have thesis/dissertation proposal in line with the R&D thrust of the
ERDT Program and that he/she has successfully defended his/her thesis/dissertation
proposal, as approved by the thesis/dissertation adviser/ panel of examiners.

RESEARCH GRANT

 This grant is given to acquire laboratory equipment and for the maintenance, operation, and
other expenses needed in the scholar’s research.
 This grant is intended to support research to be conducted locally and it will help the scholar
ensure completion of his/her research on time.
 This grant can be requested by a scholar who has preferably completed all of his/her academic
courses and ready to do research in preparation for thesis or dissertation manuscript writing.
 The scholar must have thesis/dissertation proposal or detailed research plan in line with the R&D
thrust of the ERDT Program and that the scholar has preferably defended his/her
thesis/dissertation proposal, as approved by the thesis/dissertation panel of examiners.
Release of Funds
The grant must be approved first by the ERDT-FSSC before proceeding to
procurement of any research related materials or services.
 Scholars are highly advised to coordinate with the ERDT office for guidance
and proper processing of the grant.
 The use of research grant should be in accordance with Republic Act No.
9184 or the Act Providing for the Modernization, Standardization and
Regulation of the Procurement Activities of the Government and for other
Purposes, better known as the Philippine Government Procurement Reform Act
of 2002 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations; other government policies
related to the use of public funds.

Equipment
 The ERDT adviser will be accountable for all the equipment
purchased under the research grant of his/her scholar/s.
 Upon completion of degree, all scholars are required to return
all equipment purchased under the research grant to his/her
research adviser. In case of loss of equipment prior to turn-over,
the scholar must replace the item.
RESEARCH DISSEMINATION GRANT
(RDG)

Master’s Doctoral

 The RDG is provided to ERDT Scholars as a support for presentation and publishing their
research works to local and international conferences, fora, scientific meetings, and journals.
 The RDG is open to scholar within scholarship contract who is partially or fully done with his/her
thesis or dissertation manuscript writing and who has preferably completed all of his/her
academic courses prescribed in the program of study.
The scholar shall avail the grant before the published date of conference, forum, or scientific
meeting. The grant cannot be awarded to a scholar with a paper that was presented before the
application of the grant.
 The scholar must be a presenting author of an accepted paper in a local or international
conference, forum or scientific meeting or the first author or sole author to support the publication
of the paper.
RESEARCH DISSEMINATION GRANT

 A scholar can present and/or publish different research papers in scientific gatherings
more than once as long as the accumulated cost does not exceed the maximum
allowable budget of the scholar.

 Scholars who have graduated (within scholarship contract or approved extension


period) are also qualified to apply for the grant. The RDG must be availed for the
period of one (1) year after the completion of degree.

 In case of paper or poster presentations, the date of the conference, fora or scientific
meetings should be within the scholarship contract, approved extension period, and
allowable one (1) year period after the completion of degree.
Release of Funds
 The actual amount of RDG released to the scholar shall be
based on the Line Item Budget (LIB) submitted by the scholar at
the time of application of the grant.

 The RDG is subject to liquidation of expenses. Liquidation


report must be submitted to the ERDT office.
MENTOR’S FEE

 The Mentor’s Fee is an incentive given to faculty advisers for


their guidance to ERDT Local Graduate Scholars.

 The Mentor’s Fee will only be released to the adviser if the


scholar will able to complete his/degree on-time or during
extension period.
EARLY GRADUATE INCENTIVE

 A scholar who graduates in the study program


earlier than the period of study (stipulated in the
contract) shall receive the lump sum of unreleased
stipends for the remaining period of the scholarship.
The equivalent months for the remaining semesters
which will no longer be enrolled into by the scholar
shall not become part of his required return service.

PROGRAM
 This program is designed to enable ERDT Scholars to
conduct research abroad in areas that have yet to be
developed in the consortium member university or in
fields of studies where research facilities are not
available or inadequate in the country.
 This will help the scholar ensure completion of his/her

research on time.

PROGRAM
Duration
 Minimum period of three (3) months and a maximum

period of twelve (12) months.


Criteria for Eligibility
 The scholar must be within the scholarship contract

during the Sandwich Program period.


 The scholar must have at least two(2) months

remaining in the scholarship period upon return for


manuscript writing and final oral defense.

Criteria for Eligibility
The scholar must:
 have completed all academic courses prescribed in

the program of study.


 have successfully defended his/her research
proposal.
 have at least remaining 2 months in the contract upon

return after the Sandwich Program for defense and


manuscript writing.

PROGRAM
Criteria for Eligibility
The scholar must satisfy all of the following:
 The thesis/dissertation topic cannot be conducted locally,
 The thesis/dissertation topic has no available expertise locally,
 The needed facilities and equipment for the conduct of the research for the
thesis/dissertation topic are not available locally, and
 The use of research facilities in the host university is free of charge and
needed equipment are already available in the host university.

PROGRAM
Entitlements
The program provides a maximum of P1,200,000.00 research support that
covers the following:
 One round trip economy airfare and travel tax,
 Pre-travel expenses (visa application, medical expenses, and language
proficiency examination fees if applicable),
 Relocation allowance (payment for temporary lodging, down payment for
the boarding house, winter clothes). Appliances and furniture are not
covered,
 Cost of living allowance (accommodation, meals, transportation, toiletries,
laundry, internet, and communication expenses),
 Travel and health insurance, and
 Other school fees required by the host university.

Entitlements
 The local monthly stipend, book allowance, transportation allowance, and
research grant of scholar cannot be availed during the period that the
scholar is under the Sandwich Program.
 Research Grant can no longer be availed by the scholar awarded with the
Sandwich Program.
 As for the grants, only research dissemination grant and thesis/dissertation
grant can be availed by the scholar while under or after the Sandwich
Program.
AVAILMENT OF OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

Availment of Foreign Fellowship, Internship and


Exchange Programs Related to Approved Research
Program
The scholar may avail other scholarship award for supplementary financial
assistance only from private entities that shall not interfere with his/her
contractual obligation under the ERDT Local Graduate Scholarship Agreement.
 The scholar must seek the approval of the ERDT Project Leader.
 The scholars must justify that the proposed exchange program is related to
his/her thesis/dissertation and that it will help finish his/her research work on
time.

Academic Load Requirement


 The scholar shall carry full academic load per semester (minimum
of 9 units) or residency during midyear.
 In case where the student has taken more subjects in the previous
semesters and has remaining required courses of less than the
required minimum units, this requirement is waived.
 The scholar shall not enroll in an academic program other than
his/her program of study.

Academic Load Requirement
 A scholar may be allowed to take/enroll courses outside the
approved program of study (e.g. PE courses, language courses)
but payment of tuition fees for these shall be borne by the
scholar.

 The scholar is not allowed to enroll such courses if he/she is


carrying a full academic load of 12 units.

GRADUATE SCHOLARS
Grade Requirement
 To remain in good standing status, the student must maintain a
cumulative weighted average (CWAG) of 2.0 or better for MS
and 1.75 or better for PhD at the end of every semester.
 In case that the scholar re-enrolls a course because he/she
dropped the course or incurred a failing grade, the scholar shall
pay for the actual tuition and related fees for that particular
course.

GRADUATE SCHOLARS
Full-time Commitment to the Scholarship
 The scholar shall not engage in any form of employment or similar activities while on
scholarship. The scholar shall devote full time commitment to his/her approved
program of study and conduct his/her research.
 Employment on DOST-funded projects (as Research Assistant) is allowed provided that
the research of the scholar is related to the project. This is subject for approval of the
ERDT Project Leader.

Technology Entrepreneurship Course


 Scholars are required to enroll and pass at least 3-unit Technology Entrepreneurship.
 In cases that this course is not part of the curriculum, it will be an additional required
course on top of the required number of units of the graduate program.
 This is optional to an ERDT PhD scholar who has taken the Technology Entrepreneurship
during his/her Master’s degree.

GRADUATE SCHOLARS
Leave of Absence
 A scholar may be allowed to file for an official LOA for a period not exceeding one
semester (excluding midyear). In highly meritorious cases, the scholar may file LOA for
more than one semester/term.
 The leave must be highly justified, supported by pertinent documents, and properly
endorsed by his/her thesis or dissertation adviser.
 During the period of LOA, the scholar is not entitled to any of the scholarship
entitlements. It will be restored once the scholar returns from official LOA.
 The scholar who re-enrolls after LOA must seek reinstatement of the scholarship to be
approved by the ERDT Project Leader.
 The period of the official LOA is not counted in the scholarship period.

Leave of Absence
 For scholar who has received scholarship privileges during the term (before he/she
filed for an official LOA) but went on approved LOA, the total amount allowances
received will be deducted from his/her entitlements in the succeeding semester.

 Filing of Leave of Absence is usually done during the latter part of the semester.

Extension of Scholarship
 In highly exceptional and meritorious cases, the scholar may be granted extension for
a maximum period of one (1) academic year for both MS and PhD programs. The
approval of the extension of the scholarship period is based on the merit of the case.
 During the extension period, the scholar can no longer avail the following: tuition and
other school fees, monthly stipend, book allowance and transportation allowance).
 Only unreleased thesis or dissertation grant, research grant, and research
dissemination grant can be requested by the scholar.
 The scholar shall make the request for extension of scholarship in writing to the ERDT
Project Leader before his/her contract ends.
 Failure to apply during this period means that extension request shall be denied and
remaining grants shall be forfeited.

Penalties and Suspension for Unsatisfactory Academic Performance and
Noncompliance to Academic Load Requirements
 INCOMPLETE (INC) grades: the scholar will only receive 80% of stipend in the
following semester. The remaining 20% will be released upon completion and passing
of the grade the following semester.
 Dropping of subjects: the scholar will only receive 80% of stipend in the following
semester. The remaining 20% will be released upon retake and completion of the
dropped/equivalent subjects the following semester.
 Failure to meet the prescribed CWAG and failure to maintain good academic status:
the scholar can appeal to the ERDT program. The scholar will be subjected for
evaluation. ERDT shall decide whether the scholar will be allowed to continue or be
terminated and asked for repayment.

Termination of Scholarship
 The scholar has incurred two or more failing grades in a semester.
 The scholar is disqualified due to violation of retention rules in the ERDT supported
program he/she is enrolled in.
 The scholar made a violation in his/her contract with ERDT (Breach of Contract).
 The scholar exceeds the time allotted to finish the program including approved
extensions, not counting the official LOA taken.
 The scholar has shifted to another course or transferred to another University.
 The scholar commits misconduct as specified in the rules and regulations on student
conduct and discipline of the Consortium University where he/she is enrolled in.
 The scholar has been convicted of any crime by a court or proper administrative body.
 The scholar has committed actions that are considered inimical to the interest of the
university and adversely affect the integrity of the ERDT Scholarship.

Termination of Scholarship
 Termination shall be with refund of the
total financial assistance received plus
12% interest.

Service in the Philippines
 The scholar shall render return service in the Philippines
immediately upon completion of his/her Master’s or PhD degree,
preferably in his/her home region and along his/her field of
specialization for a minimum period equivalent to the length of
time that he/she enjoyed the scholarship.
 Any service rendered before the completion of the graduate
degree shall not be considered as part of the service obligation.

Repayment Obligations
 If the status of the scholarship is terminated or the scholar failed
to render the return service obligation except due to disability
or death, the scholar must pay back the monetary equivalent of
all scholarship entitlements he/she has received with an addition
of twelve percent (12%) of the total amount received to cover
administration costs.
 In the event that the scholar cannot fulfill his/her repayment
obligations, his/her co-maker shall be held liable.

Temporary Clearance
 Scholars who are still under scholarship contract, graduated, and
with service or financial obligation must seek a permission to the
ERDT program before leaving the country for official or personal
reasons.
Final Clearance
 A scholar who already graduated from his/her degree program
and has rendered his/her service obligation is required to file
for a final clearance.

Other Responsibilities:
 The scholar must comply with all the ERDT scholarship polices
contained in the scholarship agreement, handbook, and policies.
 The scholar shall finish all academic requirements of the program
of study within the period of scholarship stipulated in the
contract.
 The scholar must acknowledge DOST-SEI and ERDT in ALL reports
and publications (including final manuscript) that may be
released in connection with the thesis/dissertation.

Other Responsibilities:
 The scholar must attend the events of the ERDT Program
(Conferences, Congress, Summit, Forum, Seminars, and
consultation meetings).
ADVICE IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH

 All scholars must have a thesis/dissertation adviser by


the end of the first semester of the program.
 All scholars must have an approved
thesis/dissertation proposal by the end of the second
semester of the program
 All scholars must request immediately their research
grant once the thesis/dissertation proposal is
approved.
 All scholars must aim to present in an
international/national conference within their second
year.
