CHAPTER 1

1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND
Everybody wanted a private and comfortable life, recent studies show people prefer
private car instead of public transport because of the functional, psychological and
cultural values of private cars. The cause of this made motorised vehicles including
car and motorbike grew from about 75 million to about 675 million between 1950 and
1990 [1]. Most people nowadays are highly dependent on car travel because it plays
an important role, such as feeling of sensation, power, freedom, status and superiority.
So it is important to promote policies that can reduce the usage of private transport by
build a more systematic and provide more frequent public transport in a country [2].
The aim of this project is to develop an application that can display the public transport
bus routes and alert features for the user.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT


1. People want to plan things ahead of time to go for a destination.
2. Public transport mainly buses do not get more attraction than private transports.
3. Sometimes buses ignore people whose waiting at the bus stop because driver
assuming they do not want to ride it since the people at the bus stop giving more
attention on other things such as mobile phone.

1.3 OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to build a mobile application that:

1. Could show bus routes using map.


2. Could show buses live location using Global Positioning System (GPS).
3. Could alert user when bus is near using android smartphones notification.

1.4 SCOPE
1.4.1 User Scope
i. There are two users that will interact with the application are:
a. Passenger
 Able to login
 View bus routes
 Receive alert/notification when bus is near (1 station and less)
1.4.2 System Scope
i. Below are the features that will be revealed:
a. Passenger
 Receive alert/notification when bus is near (1 station and less)
b. Driver
 Broadcast location using GPS.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE
i. The users do not have to keep on alert for incoming bus.
ii. The users can plan ahead before going to destination.

1.6 ASSUMPTION(S) AND LIMITATION(S)


1.6.1 Assumption(s)
i. All users have internet connection.
ii. All users have an android smartphone.

1.6.2 Limitation(s)
i. Only for android devices.
ii. Accuracy limited to GPS capabilities.
