Novel Study Assignment Order:

Theses assignments must be completed by the Friday they are due! The dates
should be written next to each assignment in your Reading Folder. You have class
time during the week, but whatever you don’t finish must be completed for
homework.

1. Week 1 Assignment:
a. Turn to the Plot Map sheet and complete the Introduction: Determine the
protagonist, and minor characters, setting (where and when), and the conflict. Write
in COMPLETE SENTENCES.

2. Week 2 Assignment:
a. While reading, write down a few words you do not know on your Vocabulary Journal
page.
b. Use context clues to try to determine the meaning. Then, look up the words in a
dictionary to make sure you are correct. Write down the part of speech and definition
on your Vocabulary Journal sheet.
c. Complete one of the Vocabulary Webs using one of these words. BE NEAT!! Make
sure to use complete sentences when asked to write a sentence.

3. Week 3 Assignment:
a. Complete a Literature Web for one of your chapters. Think profoundly about the
chapter. BE NEAT!!

4. Week 4 Assignment:
a. Complete one of the written reflections about your novel.
b. Use one of the prompts from your folder.
c. Use details from the text to support your belief.
d. Make sure to have a heading, introduction, details, and a conclusion.
e. Check for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors. BE NEAT!
f. Look at your rubric in your folder. Do you think you will receive 4’s for all categories?

5. Week 5 Assignment:

c. Use details from the text to support your belief.
d. Make sure to have a heading, introduction, details, and a conclusion.
e. Check your paper for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors. BE
NEAT!!
f. Look at your rubric in your folder. Do you think you will receive 4’s for all categories?

8. Week 8 Assignment:
a. While reading, complete any of your Vocabulary Journal that is not done.
b. You should have 10 vocabulary words written on your lined sheet of notebook paper.
c. You should have your vocabulary words listed, parts of speech, and definition for each
word.

9. Week 9 Assignment:
a. Complete your Cycles Matrix sheet
b. Include specific evidence from your novel.
c. Use page numbers for reference.
d. You may need to use additional sheets of paper. If so, note that on your Cycles Matrix
sheet.

10.Week 10 Assignment:
a. Complete your third written reflections about your novel.
b. Use a different prompt. (You can only use a question once.)
c. Use details from the text to support your belief.
d. Make sure to have a heading, introduction, details, and a conclusion.
e. Check your paper for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors. BE
NEAT!!
f. Look at your rubric at the end of your folder. Do you think you will receive 4’s for all
categories?

11. Week 11 Assignment:


a. Complete your Plot Map. Make sure to write in COMPLETE SENTENCES.
b. If you have time, complete your extra credit written reflection.
c. Take the Reading Counts test on the book.  This will be entered as a test grade! You
are allowed to use the book on the test!
