The campus, located on the south side of Sydney’s central business district in Surry Hills, is a short
two-minute walk from Central Station, Sydney’s largest train station serving both the Sydney Trains
network and the New South Wales TrainLink services. Prince Albert Park, a 7.5-hectare urban
parkland, is a five-minute walk from the campus and boasts five tennis courts, a kilometre-long
exercise circuit, an outdoor heated pool and sustainable landscaping throughout. Parking spaces are
limited along Mary Street but the public transport options available make this location very
convenient. The campus is also within a five-kilometre radius of Sydney’s notable landmarks such as
the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.

The Southern Cross University Sydney campus offers post-secondary qualifications at the for
international students.

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales, which remains the top destination state for international
students with 268,500 international students enrolled at the end of 2016*. The Sydney City council
has several programs in place to support international students and provides a comprehensive
international student resource guide and student leadership programs providing leadership training,
mentoring, skills development and even work experience. The council's support, plus Southern
Cross University’s convenient location makes the Sydney campus an ideal place for international
students in one of the world's most beautiful and liveable cities.

Southern Cross University collaborates with EduCo Sydney Branch Pty Ltd for the operation of the
Southern Cross Sydney, Melbourne and Perth branch campuses. EduCo is responsible for
marketing, recruitment and agent management of external agents on behalf of Southern Cross
University.

Diploma of business
The Diploma of Business covers all three core skills units and five of the eight core units of Southern
Cross University’s Bachelor of Business. Topics could include accounting, finance, economics,
business law, statistics, marketing, management, ethics and sustainability.

Successful graduates of the Diploma of Business will be eligible to gain one year of advanced
standing towards the Associate Degree of Business, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business in
Tourism and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Digital Business, or Bachelor of Information
Technology.

Bachelor of Business:
The Bachelor of Business equips students with the knowledge and ability to work as specialist
business professionals in varied and changing business environments. The degree offers diverse
core units in first year before specialising, so that students have the flexibility to determine what
business career they are most interested in pursuing. The degree is designed to teach students the
critical reasoning, communication and professional skills required in contemporary business settings.
Students gain a broad understanding of business principles through the core units, and develop
specialised skills in a business disciplines of their choice through the study of a major.
Students have the option of completing the core units in the Bachelor of Business plus electives.
Students also have the option to study one major plus electives.

All majors are available in online study mode. On-campus students may also study any Bachelor of
Business major online. Some majors, study streams and units may not be available at each campus
location.

 Accounting (Gold Coast, Lismore, SYD*, MEL*, PNG)


Equips students with the technical, conceptual and managerial skills to be effective business
managers in modern commercial, government, social and not-for-profit organisations.
 Aviation Management (Gold Coast)
Aviation management units help develop an understanding of the broader function of, and
impacts on, the aviation industry. Students who have successfully completed a Diploma of
Aviation (Instrument Flight Operations) with another institution may be granted up to eight
units of advanced standing (credit) for the Bachelor of Business with a major in Aviation
Management. This major also provides students with the opportunity to undertake a full
accredited CASA Commercial Pilot License through Airways Aviation.
 Finance (Gold Coast, Lismore)
Students are taught to understand the key principles of wealth creation and risk analysis in a
global economy. They learn to evaluate factors that impact on the value of the dollar, interest
rates and stock market.
 Human Resource Management (Gold Coast, PNG)
Students are equipped with the professional expertise and understanding needed to manage
selection and recruitment procedures, training and development, and performance
management of staff.
 International Business (Gold Coast, SYD*, MEL*)
Prepares students to respond to the complexity of global markets, addressing issues such as
cross-cultural communication and negotiation, alternative market structures, variations in
consumer demand patterns and differing government regulations and policies.
 Management (Gold Coast)
Equips students with the skills to monitor the changing business and social environment and
make sound judgments on the most appropriate directions and actions.
 Marketing (Gold Coast, SYD*, MEL*, PNG)
Students develop analytical business skills, excellent communication skills and an
understanding of human behaviour and motivation. They learn how to creative effective
marketing strategies and campaigns.

Professional recognition
The Accounting majors are accredited by Chartered Accountants of Australia and New
Zealand and CPA Australia. Students may apply for membership of the Institute of Public
Accountants.

The Finance major is aligned with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
RG146 accreditation requirements and Southern Cross University provides authorised assessment
for certification.
Students are eligible to join the Australian Institute of Management.
