PREAMBLE

We the members of the Law Students Initiative for Environment (LIFE) invoking the
blessings of the Almighty in order to create a venue to manifest University College of Law
students’ desire in promoting environmental protection as an individual responsibility and an
integral consideration in our country, involving them in the preservation, protection and
proliferation of the environment.

ARTICLE I

NAME & PURPOSE

Section 1. Name- The name of this organization shall be known as Law Students Initiative for
Environment or LIFE.

Section 2. Purpose – The purpose of this organization shall be:


a. To advocate for the protection, conservation and restoration of the environment;
b. To increase the environmental literacy of the school community by organizing activities for
the realization thereof;
c. To reach out to other schools or communities for the furtherance of the organization’s
environmental advocacy;
d. To be involved in government or non-government activities for the promotion of environmental
protection.

ARTICLE II

MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Eligibility – Students who are officially enrolled in the subject Natural Resources
and Environmental Laws…

Section 2. Duties and Responsibilities- The members of this organization shall actively
participate in all activities sanctioned by the organization to achieve its objectives.

ARTICLE III
OFFICERS

Section 1. Officers– The officers of the organization shall be a President, Vice-President


External and Internal, Secretary, Treasurer, and Business Manager Public Relations Officer,
and Representative per Section.

Section 2. Eligibility– Officers of the organization must be:

a. A bona fide law student of the University of San Agustin


b. He/She must be enrolled in the subject Natural Resources and Environmental Laws and
c. With good moral character.
Section 3: Term – The officers shall serve for one academic year and their term of office shall
begin at the time they are elected.

Section E: Vacancy – If a vacancy occurs in the position of President, the Vice-President


Internal shall assume the position for the remainder of the term and vacancies in any other
office shall be filled by a special election as agreed upon by the members.

ARTICLE IV

ELECTION

Section 1. Election – The officers shall be elected by every 3rd week of July on a specific date
set by the organization.

Section 2. Manner and Time of the Election- The election shall be by means of secret ballot.

Section 3. Proclamation of Winners- If there are two or more candidates for a specific position,
the candidate who garners the highest plurality number of votes is declared as winner. If in case
there is only one candidate for the position, he or she must attain at least majority of the number
of votes cast.

Section 4: Electoral Body- the electoral body shall be composed of all the members of the
organization.

ARTICLE V

DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Section 1. President – it shall be the duty of the President to:

a. Preside at meetings
b. Vote only in case of a tie
c. Represent the club
d. Appoint committee chairpersons subject to the approval of the Executive Committee
e. Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee
f. Perform such other duties as ordinarily pertain to this office

Section 2. Vice-President (Internal) – It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:

a. Organize activities within the campus


b. Preside in meetings in the absence of the president
c. Serve as chairperson of the Program Committee

Section 3. Vice President (External) – It shall be the duty of the Vice President External to:

a. Preside in the absence of the Vice President internal.


b. Organize activities outside the campus
Section 4. Secretary – It shall be the duty of the Secretary to:

a. Record the minutes of all meetings


b. Keep a file of the club’s records
c. Maintain a current roster of membership
d. Issue notices of meetings and conduct the general correspondence of the club

Section 5: Treasurer – It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to:

a. Receive all funds and process Request for Payment, Deposit Slip, and Officer Signature Forms.
b. Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and make reports as directed

ARTICLE VI

MEETINGS

Section 1. Meetings – Regular meetings shall be held monthly during the regular school year.

Section 2. Special Meeting – Special meetings may be called by the President with the
approval of the Executive Committee.

Section 3. Quorum – A quorum shall consist at least 50%+1 of the officers.

ARTICLE VII

ADVISORSHIP

Section 1. Selection – The Professor teaching Natural and Environmental Law shall
automatically be the advisor of the organization.

Section 2. Duties – The responsibilities of the faculty advisor shall be to:

a. Maintain an awareness of the activities and programs sponsored by the student organization.
b. Meet on a regular basis with the Presiding officer to discuss upcoming meetings, long-term
plans, goals, and problems of the organization.
c. Attend regular meetings, executive board meetings as often as schedule allows.
d. Assist in the orientation of new officers.
e. Explain and clarify campus policy and procedures that apply to the organization.
f. Provide direction in the area of parliamentary procedure, meeting facilitation, group-building,
goal setting, and program planning.
g. Assist the Treasurer in monitoring expenditures, fundraising activities, and corporate
sponsorship to maintain an accurate and up-to-date account ledger.
h. Inform members of the organization of those factors that constitute unacceptable behavior on
the part of the other members, and the possible consequence of said behaviors.
ARTICLE VIII

PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Section 1. Project and Activity Committee – The officers shall form a committee for every
project and activity to be conducted by the organization.

Section 2. Approval – All projects and activities shall be approved by the advisor and the
Dean of the College of Law

Section 3. Income Generating Projects (IGP) – The organization shall conduct at least one
(1) IGP each year to supplement the funds of the organization.

ARTICLE IX

AMENDMENTS

Section 1. Selection – These bylaws may be amended by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of all the
members of the organization.

Section 2. Notice – All members shall receive advance notice of the proposed amendment at
least five days before the plebiscite voting. The time may be extended subject to the discretion
of the officers.

ARTICLE X

Sec 1. Effectivity—The effectivity of this bylaws shall be upon the approval of the Vice
President of Academic Affairs.
