Level: Intermediate
Yarn Weight: Worsted #4
Colour: 2 colours – colour change indicated in pattern
Hook: 4.5 mm (or whatever you have already been using for your 6” squares)
Size: 15 cm x 15 cm (approx. 6 inches)
Notes: I use US Crochet stitch terminology.

Abbreviations

ch - chain tr – treble crochet

ss – slip stitch ch sp/s – chain
space(s)
sc – single crochet st/s – stitch(es)
dc – double crochet st ch – starting chain

Block Pattern

Round 1:
• Using Colour A, begin with a magic
circle or ch 4 and join the last ch to the
first with a ss to make a loop.
• Ch 3 (counts as dc),
• 15 dc,
• join with ss to 3rd chain of ch3.
{16 sts}
Round 2:
• Ch 1,
• sc in same st as ss,
• Repeat 3 times:
○ ch 1, skip 1 st,
○ 7 dc in next st,
○ ch 1, skip 1 st,
○ 1 sc in next st,
• ch 1, skip 1 st,
• 7 dc in next st,
• ch 1, skip 1 st,
• join with ss to 1st sc.
• Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.
{32 sts and 8 x 1 ch sps}
Round 3:
• Using Colour B, join with ss in ss of last
round.
• ch 4 (counts as tr)
• tr in same st,
• ch5,
• 2 tr in the same st,
• Repeat 3 times:
o ch 2, skip ch sp and next 3 dc,
o sc in next dc,
o ch 2, skip next 3 dc and ch sp,
o 2 tr in the sc,
o ch5,
o 2 tr in same sc,
• ch 2,
• skip ch sp and next 3 dc,
• sc in next dc,
• ch 2,
• skip next 3 dc and ch sp,
• join with ss in 4th st of st ch4.
{20 sts, 8 x 2 ch sps and 4 x 5 ch sps}
Round 4:
• ch 3 (counts as dc),
• dc in next st
• Repeat 3 times:
o (3 dc, ch3, 3dc) in ch5 sp,
o 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts,
o 2 dc in the ch2 sp,
o 1 dc in next st,
o 2 dc in the ch2 sp,
o 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts,
• (3 dc, ch3, 3dc) in ch5 sp,
• 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts,
• 2 dc in the ch2 sp,
• 1 dc in next st,
• 2 dc in the ch2 sp,
• join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch3.

Round 5:
• ch 2 (counts as hdc)
• 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts,
• Repeat three times:
o (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in ch sp
o 1hdc in each of the next 15 sts
• (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in ch sp
• 1hdc in each of the next 10 sts
• join with ss to 2nd ch of st ch2.
{68 sts and 4 x 1 ch sps}

Round 6:
• ch 3 (counts as dc)
• 1 dc in each of the next 6 sts,
• Repeat three times:
o (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch sp
o 1dc in each of the next 19 sts
• (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch sp
• 1dc in each of the next 12 sts
• join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch3.
