State Date End Date
Activity Name Description*/Your Role C A S (dd/mm/yy) (dd/mm/yy)
Piano I did piano private lessons, primarily 09/01/15 12/01/15
P preparing for a Piano practical exam that I
passed with around 80% of the marks. I
succeeded in accomplishing my goal of
passing the exam. I started this activity in
elementary school, and addressed some of
my weaknesses in the arts by recognizing
that with enough work, I can still have a
reasonable amount of success in music. 26
CCr Cross Country I did Cross Country as a school sport for 08/24/15 10/31/15
around 2 hours a day for around 2 months. I (1st year IB)
did this in both my years of IB in order to
have a reliable form of exercise during the 08/30/16 10/30/15
school year. Cross Country involves running
long distances and practicing for meets by
running long distances a well. I improved
my times at running long distances from
when I started, but eventually I mostly did
Cross Country for exercise instead of trying
to improve because I found it very difficult
to improve past a certain point. Although I
do not exercise often, I made an effort to
exercise more through this activity. 148
Programming (C++ I followed an online class to learn some 10/12/15 01/18/16
and C#) basic programming in C++ and C#. My goal
was to be able to learn the basics of
programming and potentially be able to
program games. I did not learn how to 56
program games but I learned the basics of
these languages. I attempted to address my
perceived strength in science, and although
I did not commit to this activity for the long
term, I hope to eventually come back to this
activity and improve more at programming.
Volunteering at Knights I helped grade papers at the Knights of Pi 12/12/15 12/12/15
o Pi Math Tournament Math tournament, a math competition for
middle school students run by high school
students, for around 7 hours. I usually
participate in math competitions and clubs,
so I decided to volunteer at this
competition. I addressed a strength (math)
that I have been often involved in outside of
school. This was one of my many
experiences volunteering at math
competitions, so I felt that I was making
progress in my involvement in math. 7
Volunteering at I2MC I2MC is the Interlake Invitational Math 03/05/16 03/05/16
Competition. I proctored and graded papers
at this math competition, which is also run
by high school students but the participants
were usually other high school students. I
also volunteered here because I usually
involve myself in math, one of my strong
subjects, outside of school. I will likely
continue involving myself in math, and
some of that involvement will be
volunteering in math related activities. 8
Track and Field I did track and field as a school sport. I did 02/29/16 05/12/16
this for two hours a day on weekdays and
mostly practiced on the school track,
running short distances, but I also went to
most of the competitions/meets, which
lasted for around 3-4 hours. I originally did
this activity for exercise as well as to help
satisfy a PE requirement. I did track and
field before my first year of IB as well, and I
improved my times in Track and Field
significantly since my first year of Track and
Field. I hope to improve more at this activity
when I do it in the future, as although
exercise is one of my weaknesses, my goal
is to at least have a continuous pattern of
exercising during and after IB. 85
I went to a summer camp at the University 06/20/16 07/01/16
ID Tech Programming of Washington to learn many types of (1st session)
Camps at University programming. The first session, I went for 75
of Washington two weeks and learned about programming 08/01/16 08/05/16
in C++ and game programming for TF2, and (2nd
in the second session I went for one week session)
and did game programming in Dota 2. The
weeks I did game programming, I made my
own maps. My original goal was to address
one of my perceived strengths, which is
programming/using computers. Although I
somewhat addressed that strength in this
camp, I also learned about the difficulty of
programming games, which I will likely not
pursue in the future. Overall, I still made
progress in terms of programming and am
more likely to continue more programming
than I was before this activity.
Summer Volunteering I volunteered at an elementary school to 07/05/16 07/29/16
At an elementary help with elementary school students in
school summer school. Some of the things I helped
with were helping supervise them when
they were at the library or helping them in
their reading groups. I did this activity to
learn about what it was like to be a
volunteer and help other students. I
addressed one of my weaknesses of not
starting activities because I believe that
they will be boring, as this was a more
interesting activity than I originally thought.
In the future I will continue volunteering
and may be open to more types of
opportunities. 40
Somerset Math Club I volunteered at Somerset Math Club, a 10/01/16 04/12/17
Volunteering math club at an elementary school. I helped
organize activities and make material to
help the elementary school students (4th
and 5th graders) learn more math concepts,
and also helped sign them up for important
math competitions. I am doing this activity
because when I was told of this
opportunity, I decided that it would be
worth trying out because math is one of my
strengths. So far, I am learning about how it
is to run a class and create the material,
which is mainly what I have been doing in
this activity. I am still trying out more types
of volunteering, and comparing my
experiences between them. So far, this
activity has felt successful, as I have not run
into many issues regarding volunteering. 40
