Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a premier Public Sector Undertaking (PSU)
under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). NPCIL is involved in the Design, Construction,
Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants.

There are ample growth opportunities for the committed professionals in NPCIL for its expanding
nuclear power programs with state-of-the-art indigenous reactor technology as well as advanced
technology acquired through international collaboration. The present installed capacity is to be
increased many folds in the coming years. Many projects are in the advanced stage of construction
and a large number of projects are in pipeline for design/construction.

Grade and Pay Band


NPCIL has adopted the basic pay structure applicable to central government employees. In
addition, some allowances are paid as per company specific rules. The selected candidates will be
inducted in ‘Pay Band’ as detailed below:

Additional advance increments may also be considered for deserving candidates.


In addition to Entry Pay in Pay Band, Grade Pay and Central Dearness Allowance (presently 35%),
House Rent Allowance (HRA)/Leased/Subsidized housing accommodation (depending upon place of

posting), Special Pay, Performance/ Productivity Linked Incentive, Professional Update Allowance,
Transport Allowance the other allowances will also be paid. Other allowances / benefits typically
include, Canteen Subsidy, Leave Encashment, Leave Travel Concession, allowances for
Telephone/Newspaper/Cable TV/Electricity/ Uniform/Liveries etc., Children’s Education Allowance,
Hostel Subsidy, Departmental Contributory Health Service Scheme, Gratuity, Contributory

Eligibility Criteria

Basic Qualification and Qualifying Degree

Engineering Graduate
Full time graduate engineering degree from recognized@ institution in Chemical, Civil,
Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Energy Systems, Environment,
Industrial/Fire Safety, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Nuclear, Power and
other recognized engineering disciplines relevant to nuclear science & power with
minimum 60% marks% or ‘First’ class as declared by university/institution. Engineering
graduates with MBA in Project Management, International Business, Operation Management,
Strategy and similar other specialization may get additional credence.

Engineering Post Graduate


An engineering graduate with aforesaid qualification and full time ‘Engineering Post Graduate’
degree from recognized@ institution with minimum 60% marks% or ‘First’ class as declared by
university/institution in any of the following specialization:
• Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Applied Mechanics, Heat transfer, Power Plant Engineering,
Structural Engineering, Structural Analysis, Earthquake Engineering, Geotechnical
Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management or
similar other subjects
• Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Computer Sc, Instrumentation, Electrical
Equipment Design, System Analysis and Modeling, Information Security, Reliability,
Systems & Control Engineering, Energy Systems, Power/ Communication/ Control
Engineering, Integrated Electronics & Circuits, Solid State Materials/ Electronic Materials
or similar other subjects .
• Nuclear Engineering & Technology, Nuclear Hydrology, Energy Systems or other
recognized disciplines of nuclear science/engineering, power.

PhD
An engineering post graduate/graduate with aforesaid qualification and PhD thesis/works on the
subjects relevant to nuclear, power and other similar industries

@- UGC recognized University/ AICTE approved Autonomous Institution (courses offered by


‘Autonomous Institution’ should be equivalent to the relevant course approved / recognized by
‘Association of Indian Universities (AIU)’). The candidates (Indian National only) , who have completed
‘Engineering Post Graduate’ or ‘PhD works’ from ‘Foreign Universities’ may also be considered for the
selection process.
%- Wherever CGPA/OGPA or Letter Grade is awarded in the examination of ‘qualifying degree’, its
equivalent percentage of marks should be calculated as per the norms adopted by University/
Institute.

Experience

Post qualification experience in Design, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management/


Planning/ Monitoring/ Implementation, Industrial Construction, Installation & Commissioning of
Power Plant / Chemical Process Plant / other similar industries or specific experiences in
ƒ Fabrication, erection, alignment, elevation checking, inspection and testing of industrial
piping, piping circuits/routes, embedded parts and associated equipments; planning,
estimation, sequencing of CS/SS joints, shop and in-situ welding/mechanical joints; NDTs
and other quality control techniques; erection, installation and testing of heavy
mechanical equipments , support structure, ducts etc. such as turbine, heat exchangers,
steam/moister/condensate handling equipments, heaters, pumps, air handling
equipments, fans/dampers and other similar equipments; electrical cable tray fabrication,
laying, segregation, sealing, etc; erection, installation etc. of HT/LT equipments,
transmission towers, switchyard equipments, panels, diesel generators, bus ducts,
grounding and other electrical equipments; instrument cable handling, installation of
control panels, field and control centre instrumentation, wiring/termination and similar
industrial instrumentation activities; industrial civil/structural construction, specific
experience in CAD/CAM, preparation of piping/ cable routing/wiring diagram/terminal list/
field drawings, operation and maintenance of power generation/chemical process plant,
modern project/construction monitoring techniques.
ƒ Foundation & structural design &, analysis, pre-stressed & reinforced concrete structural
design, steel work structural design, civil works detailed engineering; layout plans, design
of storm/drain/costal water system, relevant code & standard, costing/estimation of civil
and structural works, site preparation/development, development of ground motion
parameters/ seismic analysis, ground water hydrology/evaluation of ground water
resources, air & water pollution, review and certification of the drawings/documents
prepared by vendors/in-house.
ƒ Design and various analysis (including seismic) of mechanical systems/equipments such
as pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping, layout design and embedded parts,
computational fluid dynamics, thermal hydraulics & analysis, heat transfer, fluid flow, fire
hazard analysis, development of analytical computer codes, relevant code & standard,
simulation and modeling of physical process/phenomena.
ƒ Electrical system configurations, electrical network calculations, electrical equipment
sizing, design calculations for cable sizing, short circuit, lighting, area classification, single
line/three line diagrams and protection system for electrical power distribution
equipment/systems, specifications for high, medium and low voltage electrical power
distribution equipment such as HT/LT switch gear, transformers etc, codes and standards,
costing/ estimates, tendering, preparing specifications for equipments & appliances,
package contracts, bulk material management, review drawings/documents detail
electrical design of high, medium and low voltage power distribution system.
ƒ Process controls, Architecture of electronics system/components/PCBs/ Panels,
Industrial/Field Instrumentation, Human Machine Interface, Embedded Systems &
Programming, Programmable Logic Controllers, Distributed Control Systems, Field Bus,
Field Programmable Gate Arrays, National/International standards, simulator design, ,
Real Time Operation Systems, Software Testing using CASE tools, Software Verification
and Validation, Information Security, Mathematical modeling..
Candidates with knowledge of French or Russian language will be given additional
credence.

Other Requirement

ƒ The candidate should be an Indian citizen.


ƒ The candidate should have sound health. The appointment of the selected candidates will
be subject to meeting the health standards prescribed by the NPCIL.
ƒ Candidates working in any State/Central Government /Public Sector Undertaking /
Autonomous Organizations or any Organization which is aided by the Government are
required to apply through proper channel. In case, of anticipated delay of forwarding the
application, an advance copy of ‘data-filled-net-form’ may be submitted. However, ‘No
Objection Certificate’ from present employer and ‘Experience Certificate’ from employer(s)
are mandatory at time of interview.
ƒ Any form of canvassing or bringing extraneous pressure will be a disqualification and will
render the candidate ineligible for selection process.

Reservation and Relaxation

Reservation of posts for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PWD/EXSM candidates and relaxations


thereof would be as per government directives. The ‘Upper Age Limit’ is relaxable by 3 years for
OBC (Non Creamy Layer), 5 years for SC / ST and 10 years for PWD candidates. Upper age limit is
relaxable by 5 years for the candidates who had ordinarily domiciled in the state of Jammu &
Kashmir during the period from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989. Reservations and relaxations for Ex-
Servicemen will be as applicable.

Selection Process

1. The selection process is a two-step process: screening to short-list candidates followed by


selection interview of the short-listed candidates.
2. Based on the qualification, experience and selection interview performance, the candidates
may be inducted as Scientific/Executives in Grade of C/D/E as applicable. Placement can be
at the any of the NPCIL units including associated offices of NPCIL all over India & abroad.
The job is transferable.
3. The selection interview will primarily be oriented to assess the technical competence,
suitability of the work experience, human/managerial skills and such other competence
needed for the job/s offered.
4. In exceptional case of large number of eligible applicants for a particular category, a written
test may be conducted for initial screening the candidates for interview. No traveling fare
will be paid for appearing in written test (if conducted), however, the candidates called for
selection interview will be paid to and fro IIIAC train fare by shortest route or actual fare
paid , whichever is less for travel within India.
5. The appointment of the selected candidates will be subject to meeting the health standards
prescribed by NPCIL.
6. The following documents (original for verification and an attested copy for record) are
required to be produced at time of selection interview:

• Certificate - Date of Birth (Xth Certificate of Board Exam)


• Certificate/s - Qualifying degree/s & Mark-lists - Engineering Graduate/Post
Graduate/PhD - as applicable
• Experience certificate/s - as applicable

Domicile Certificate of Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State from 01/01/1980
to 31/12/1989 (if applicable)
• Certificate of PWD (if applicable)
• Certificate - Ex Serviceman (if applicable)

How to Apply

ƒ A candidate has to apply through online application form provided on the website. The
online application form will be available on the website from June 24, 2010 to July 14, 2010
(4:30 PM). There is no application processing fee.
ƒ It is mandatory to input all the relevant information (such as qualifying degree details,
experience details, percentage marks, email address, contact telephone number etc.) to get
the ‘data-filled-net-form’ and therefore, candidates are advised to keep such information
ready before applying online. Please read ‘instruction to fill application form’ carefully
before applying online
ƒ Initial screening is primarily based on the information provided in the online application form.
It is, therefore, strongly advised that 'summary of work experience' and ‘PhD works' ( if
applicable) should be carefully entered in online form preferably using the 'key words'
provided under heading 'Experience' in 'Information Brochure'. Detailed 'description
of work experience' may also be provided in the prescribed Format-1 provided on the
website.
ƒ Make two copies of the ‘data-filled-net-form’. Put your signature on both the copies, paste
identical photographs on both the copies. Send one copy of original signed ‘Data-filled-net-
form’ with photograph pasted and duly complete in all respects along with ‘description of
work Experience’ to the following address preferably by registered / speed post (preserve the
postal receipt) super-scribing ‘Scientific Officers/Executives–2010’, with degree and discipline
on top of the envelope on or before July 21, 2010:
