each rehearsal. What will I do to prepare effectively for each rehearsal? • Know what song we will be rehearsing in the lesson, or which sections of songs we are working on. • Don't keep going over the whole song if there is only part of it that needs work. • Making sure I breathe from my diaphragm whilst singing. Making sure my voice is warmed up.
B) Methods for ongoing refinement of
personal instrument and/or vocal part(s) throughout the process – Practicing whenever I can whilst at home (Short but often) – Making sure to drink whilst rehearsing, to keep hydrated. C) Refinement of own image as an artist/performer – As a singer, I could stand be stood up at the front of the stage, as this would make it easier for the audience to see me and it would be easier for me to make eye contact and connect with the audience, as I am more visible to them. From an audiences point of view and including myself from when I have been in an audience I find that on high energy songs I would prefer the performers/ singers to move around the stage, and then maybe on slower more intimate/ sad songs it would be nice for them to just stand and sway to and fro and smile as this instantly creates a contrast in the different kinds of songs. D) Impact of consistent punctuality and attendance
– If you are absent for/or turn up late for
rehearsals, it can cut down on the time you have to rehearse. – You won’t know your section very well. – The group might not be able to do part of/or a whole song due to your absence. – The group might change something, and due to you not being there, you will miss it, and then you won’t know what you’re doing.
E) Impact of active engagement with
other musicians or peers.
– Active Engagement is important to have
with other musicians or peers as if one or a few members of a band are having a bad day and don’t want to co-operate with the other members of the band, this has a huge impact/ knock off effect on the rest of the band, as then this can make then feel as though they can not be bothered to rehearse due to one or two members. I feel that it is important as a band/ musician to be able to communicate and compromise with one another, as arguments within the group can cause tension during valuable rehearsal time.
1.2 Describe the profile of the rehearsal
process for a specific performance of fifteen minutes material, defining the following:
A) The rationale for the rehearsal
process The rehearsal process is very important as you can’t expect to just go up on a stage with people who you might’ve only just met without rehearsing, as you might not know the song, or the pace/ speed your going to be playing/ singing at, or what key the song is going to be played/ sung at. You need to figure out whose going to come in first and start off the song, and how you’re going to end it and transition into the next song. You need to figure out what songs your going to be playing and the order you will play them in.
B) Rationale for choosing repertoire for
rehearsal Originally, the five songs that we picked from the list were: Read All About It (Emeli Sandé) This Is Gospel (Panic At The Disco) I Wouldn’t Mind (He Is We) All Of Me (John Legend) Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (Green Day) However, we made a group decision to change ‘All If Me’ to ‘Highway To Hell’ (AC/DC) as for us as musicians, ‘All Of Me’ was somewhat boring as most of the group were just playing four chords over and over repeatedly and it was quite slow, and considering we already had two slow songs, we wanted to speed it up a bit and have some more energy into our performance. Also ‘Highway To Hell’ has a guitar solo, which enabled our guitarist Millie have her own moment with everyone just focused on her. When we ran this through, we were over the fifteen-minute mark so we decided against playing ‘I Wouldn’t Mind’ as this was one of our more lengthy songs and we much preferred to perform our other quite lengthy song, ‘Read All About It’.
