1 Scope and purpose

This standard applies for lead-free air- and oven-drying two-component synthetic resin top coat materials
which are used in the spraying method for buses and trucks (cab, chassis, loading platform, as well as
their attached parts).
For top coating materials for military vehicles, the requirements according to Section 12 additionally
apply.
The standard specifies only the requirements necessary for use according to Section 3 and the material
base; the selection of suitable chemical compositions is at the manufacturer's discretion, taking into
account the release conditions according to MAN 239.

2 Release conditions
All parts of the standard series MAN 239 apply. They define the release conditions and procedures, as
well as the general terms of delivery for purchased parts.
Further details, advice, sample plates and coating materials can be obtained from the department EMTA,
Nuremburg works.
The release of a colour group for a tested colour applies for all hues in this colour group.
A colour shade from the overall colour palette is selected as a representative example for the entire test.
For testing resistance to weathering according to Section 10.3, one colour is specified as a
representative colour for each colour group.

In the colour groups yellow, orange and red, it may be necessary to have a coating thickness of up to
200 m to achieve an adequate coverage.
The top coats of the test coatings are dried in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications at the extreme
point (maximum temperature with longest dwell time) of the drying temperature range specified by the
manufacturer (datasheet).

Unless otherwise specified in individual cases, the test samples must be stored for 7 days at room temperature
(RT) after the respective coating before the start of testing and must be allowed to regenerate for 1 hour at RT
after the test loads before the requirements are determined (evaluations).

The requirements of edge- and intersection characteristics according to M 3549 have to be considered and
followed.
Test samples: Systems and corresponding test plates according to Table 9. Prepare test plates as follows:
Preparation: The coating is damaged in a defined manner down to the plate substrate using a 0,5 mm wide
diamond cutter (see diagrams).
Important: A separate milling cutter is to be used in each case for each plate variant (steel sheet,
galvanised sheet, aluminium sheet) as otherwise electrochemical corrosion will occur.

14 General conditions
The coating materials must be supplied in suitable containers (made from sheet metal or plastic).
The containers must be clearly marked as follows according to MAN 312:
- MAN trademark
- MAN item number
- MAN release number
- Manufacturer's name or trademark
- Manufacturer's quality designation (material identification or recipe No.)
- Batch number
- Quarter and year of manufacture
The 2K top coats must still fulfil all the properties of these technical terms of delivery after being stored for 12
