CLEANING PROCEDURES − SPOP−254
Task 70−21−00−110−032:
1. SPOP 254 − Removal Of RTV Silicone Rubber Compound From Parts
WARNING: REFER TO THE MANUFACTURER'S MATERIAL SAFETY DATA
SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIAL'S INFORMATION SUCH AS: HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES.
R NOTE: P&W recommends SPOP 19 plastic blast in place of SPOP
R 254. Refer to 70−21−00, SPOP−19 (Task 70−21−00−120−009). R Be sure to cut away thick rubber, as necessary, before you blast with SPOP 19.
NOTE: Refer to 70−20−00, General−01 for additional
requirements.
A. Procedure
(1) Remove RTV silicone rubber compound from all parts
except anodized aluminum parts as follows:
(a) Degrease, if necessary, with SPOP 209. Refer to
70−21−00, SPOP−209 (Task 70−21−00−110−041).
R (b) Put the parts to be stripped fully in SPS 55, SPS
R 56, SPS 62, SPS 88, or SPS 197 RTV silicone rubber compound remover at room temperature for two to four hours.
NOTE: A cover on the tank will minimize
evaporation of compounds.
(c) Examine parts for the presence of silicone rubber
compound. If necessary, scrub parts with a soft fiber brush to remove as much degraded silicone rubber compound as possible.
(d) Spray rinse parts with cold or hot water.
(e) Put parts fully in hot water at 150° − 200°F (66° −
93°C) until the temperature of the part is at the water temperature to flash dry.
(f) If there is silicone rubber compound remaining on
the part, blast by SPOP 19 to remove any remaining material. Refer to 70−21−00, SPOP−19 (Task 70−21−00−120−009).

(2) Remove RTV silicone rubber compound from anodized
aluminum parts only as follows:
(a) Degrease, if necessary, with SPOP 209. Refer to
70−21−00, SPOP−209 (Task 70−21−00−110−041).
CAUTION: BE SURE ANODIZED PARTS ARE PUT FULLY IN
RTV SILICONE RUBBER COMPOUND REMOVER TO PREVENT PARTING LINE ATTACK.
CAUTION: ANODIZED COATING ON PARTS MAY BE
DEGRADED OR STRIPPED IF PARTS ARE PUT R FULLY IN SPS 55 OR SPS 62 FOR OVER FOUR R HOURS, OR IN SPS 56, SPS 88, OR SPS 197 FOR OVER TWO HOURS.
(b) Put parts to be stripped fully in one of the RTV
silicone rubber compound removers that follow at room temperature for the specified time:
NOTE: A cover on the tank will minimize
evaporation of compounds.
R 1 SPS 55 or SPS 62 for one to four hours
R 2 SPS 56, SPS 88, or SPS 197 for one to two
hours.
(c) Examine parts for the presence of silicone rubber
compound. If necessary, scrub parts with a soft fiber brush to remove as much degraded silicone rubber compound as possible.
(d) Spray or rinse parts with hot or cold water.
(g) If necessary, touch up bare aluminum metal
surfaces with SPOP 42. Refer to 70−44−01, SPOP−42 (Task 70−44−01−330−012).
