Testing of nano-indentation with the Nano indenter XP
Measuring the hardness and modulus of elasticity (including dynamic modules)

The measurement by nano-indentation is to implement and monitor expenses as low as a

few tens of micro-Newtons (μN) and up to several hundred Millinewton (mN) with an
accuracy μN

The advantage of the instrument of nano-indentation is its ability to measure with

nanometer resolution, depth of penetration up to a few tens of nm with an accuracy <nm

POLYMERS THERMAL ANALYSIS
(DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY)
Some applications of thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry in
the field of plastics and polymers :

* Identify the softening point of a material ;

* Compare the effects of additives on the material ;
* Determine the glass transition temperature (Tg) ;
* Determine the degree of crystallinity and melting temperature (Tm ) ;
* Determine the minimum temperature in the manufacturing process of a material ;
* Determine the amount of energy needed to melt the material ;
* Quantify the material specific heat (Cp) ;
* Run a test of stability in oxygen, OIT: Oxidation Induction Time ;
* Understand and quantify the kinetics of reaction of thermosetting material during its
cooking ;
* Compare the doneness of a material relative to another ;
* Characterize material when it reacts under ultraviolet light ;
* Characterize material at its cooking temperature ;
* Determine the crystallization temperature (Tc) during cooling.

Some applications of the TGA in plastics are
listed below :

* Determine the amount of filler material in weight percent ;

* Determine the amount of ash material in weight percent ;

* Characterize the mass loss of a material over a range of temperature ;

* Characterize the mass loss vs material. time at a given temperature ;

* Quantifying the loss of water, solvent, or plasticizer or additive in a certain

range of temperature ;

* Examine the properties of flame retardant material ;

* Examine the combustion properties of a material.
