Ever heard of ‘eating with your five senses’? Eating is not just about satiating your hunger
pangs, but an elaborate affair where your senses aid you. A good ‘feel’ is one of the most
important prerequisites to a good dining-out experience. This includes the appearance of the
table linens, the interiors, the music, and much more. Further, people nowadays do not want
just good food, but an experience.
Here, we look at various food spaces in the city, (in no particular order), that don't just serve
good food, but also boast of wonderful interiors.
Soho St.
Save
The restaurant is inspired by the famous Soho St of London, and the decor reflects the same.
The ambiance is warm, and the interior is tasteful, with the usage of brick walls, interesting
memorabilia, and graphics.
What we loved: It's international feel. Seems like you could be sitting in any big city anywhere
in the world.
Mamagoto
Save
This place is an experiment of sorts – to create a relaxed, casual space where affordable Asian
cuisine and awe-inspiring décor come together. The interiors are inspired from Manga (a
comic created extensively in Japan) which is eye-catching, colourful, and full of energy.
What we loved: How dark shades mix to make a visually appealing space and of course their
wall art.
What you should try: Nothing can go wrong with the small-plate concept. Order away.
Watson’s
Save
People talk about the beer and the food here, but we think it is time to start talking about the
space, too. The eatery is reasonably big, and the pub is separated into an alfresco space
(overlooking the Ulsoor lake) and a closed one. A low seating arrangement and a British-
looking interior make Watson’s a go-to place during weekends.
Mandrake
Save
Located on the busy by-lanes of St. Marks Road, this gastro-pub is known for its wonderful
Sunday brunch. The bar is located at the center of the room, quirky posters adding to its
appeal. Funk and retro music playing in the background, great food, a live grill, wood-fired
pizzas, and a wide selection of spirits and cocktails - what more do you need from an eatery?
Take your pick from the alfresco or indoor dining area.
What we loved: The aesthetics, the clean lined look, and the bar in the center.
Cafe Noir
Save
Bright and upbeat is how we would describe this place. It is small, but ideal for a quick meal
for two. The furniture is chic and cute, as well. We loved the counter area of the cafe... it sure
looks inviting, and the open space adds to the ambiance too.
Tim Tai
Save
Tim Tai will surely change the way you look at restaurant décor. In times when people are
jazzing up their space to woo customers, the folks at this pan-Asian eatery have decided to
keep their decor minimal and to-the-point – winning hands-down. The natural and bright
colours here will charm you.
What you should try: Banana Leaf Wrapped Fish With Balinese Spices, Quick Fried Mix
Vegetables With Ginger Wine Sauce.
Serafina
Save
This place will serve all your needs. It can be whatever you want it to be – a café, a casual
restaurant, or a fine-dining spot. With its generous space, high ceilings, and huge windows,
Serafina has a colonial feel to it. The alfresco dining area adds to the feel of the place. The
space is bright and cheery, making it perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch.
What we loved: With high ceilings and wooden floors its perfect for a romantic meal any day
of the week.
What you should try: Pizzas and top-notch European and Mediterranean cuisine.
Mr Hong
Save
Who would not want to sit in a restaurant that is high on natural light, eh? Natural light is
something worth loving in Mr. Hong, apart from the low chairs and tables that match the
shade of the walls and the accessories in the joint.
What we loved: The quaint setting with pops of colour that are a very pleasant surprise.
Location: Malleshwaram.
This is a place where simplicity meets perfection. We love how the idea of not using a uniform
colour makes the space look interesting. We would suggest you visit this space one in the day
and book a spot in the evening, too – you will love how the place looks different at different
times in the day.
What we loved: The use of colors in the most unique setting. A mix informal furniture,
interesting lamp shades and colorful walls.
What you should try: Shaking Beef, Char Siu Bao, Ramen.
When we stepped in this spot for the first time, we were reminded of an English pub. Every
little item here is placed at the right spot, and every little space is perfectly made use of. And
how can we forget the cone-shaped light shades that hung right above us? Sit here for fifteen
minutes, and we are sure you will be discussing about the shades and how yummy the burgers
are! We love where the bar is placed, as well.
What we loved: The old-British feel and those quirky light fittings on the ceiling.
Blistering Barnacles
Save
We would describe this space as a cosy pub! In both the alfresco and indoor seating area, the
décor is tastefully done.
What we loved: The cosy and comfy feel of the place with Captain Haddock and Tin Tin for
company.
What you should try: Bacon Wrapped Prawns and Tintin-inspired drinks.
Habanero
Save
First things first, this is the first place where the bar counter over-shadows the whole space.
The restaurant is bright, with pretty décor that will definitely add to your dining experience.
What we loved: The bright Mexican setting, the neat display for drinks and wall art.
Happy Brew
Save
This pub has a happy ambience, with comfy, and upbeat interiors. This is the place to visit if
you want to quench that ‘beer’ craving of yours. The parquet-styled designs on the walls and
tabletops give the interior a unique look.
What we loved: Well-planned interiors with clean lines and pops of color here and there.
What you should try: The pocket-friendly food and their Karaoke nights!
The Humming Tree is the epitome of perfect hangouts, with gigs, killer interiors, and food to
die for. The indoor sitting area has a vintage feel to it, with the restaurant/performance scape
spread across two floors – both have unique characteristics. What caught our eye the most was
the Edison bulbs and the quirky seating arrangement near the bar area.
What we loved: The laid-back feel of the place, the interesting seats and liberal use of chains.
Paradigm Shift
Save
The folks here have a sharp aesthetic sense, for sure. The place is small, but not cluttered. It
also doubles up as an activity centre, which is another USP of the place. Plus, they serve vegan
food that is nice and easy on the pocket.
What we loved: The economical usage of space, the vintage furniture and plant potters in
colors.
What you should try: Pick the Thai food and baked items from the all vegan menu.
Sancho’s
Save
The interior of Sancho’s has been inspired by Mexican cantinas. The main design elements
here are the mud walls, wrought-iron light fittings, and distressed furniture. The colour palette
here is earthy, which gives a warm effect when combined with the dim, indirect lighting.
What we loved: The homely feel, the coloured cushions all transport you to a quaint place in
Mexico.
Location: Lavelle Road.
Singkong
Save
The barrier between Sancho's and Singkong is the wooden screen that is treated differently on
either side. The Singkong side has Buddha statues and frames. The main design feature of
Singkong is the 30-feet high magnolia wall and modern illustrations with traditional cues.
What we loved: The fine-dining feel and the zen like atmosphere all around.
Location: Lavelle Road.
My Bar
Save
When you dine here, it will feel like you are sitting inside a cabin. You will adore the details in
the wood-work and other accessories, like the light on the ceiling. This one is a great weekend
hangout!
What you should try: Pick any concoction from the drinks menu!
This place is known more for its food, but it scores high on décor, too. With a comfortable
seating arrangement and chic and well-lit interiors, this place is great for formal get-togethers.
What we loved: The formal seating, the red walls and photographs on those walls that talk to
you.
Location: Phoenix MarketCity, Whitefield.

This is a spot where top-notch décor meets great food, period. Set foot here and you wil be
touched with a sense of elegance. The interiors are inspired by Zen traditions, and will
definitely soothe your senses. A perfect space to unwind!
What we loved: The huge Buddha bust, the grandiose of the place.
What you should try: The cocktails, by far the best in Bangalore!
Save
Fashioned along the lines of a European street with cobblestone paving, Mediterranean-style
shutters with window boxes, rows of charming retail fronts, and a large space for
performances and open markets, 153 Biere Street is one of the city's most gorgeous dine-out
spaces, for sure.
What we loved: The old-world, countryside charm of Europe, little shops along side.
Toit
Save
This is a brewery/pub that feels like home, probably because it is neatly tucked into the
bylanes of Indiranagar. The decor matches with this feeling, too – the place has neat parquet
flooring and a mix of wooded and concrete structures. Charming, right?
What you should try: The beer, their thin crust pizzas.
A space with a casual feel, The Biere Club is known for its spacious interiors and lovely
playlist. Now wonder why it is full to the gills with people!
What we loved: The uncluttered setting, the wall art, the brick walls.
What you should try: The craft brews and sumptuous finger food.
Vapour
Save
This is the perfect example of how lights of varying intensity can affect the feel of a place.
Attention to detail is visible in every corner of this pub. We really liked the window seats here,
with natural light flowing in. This pub has a rock ‘n’ vibe.
Prost has been inspired by Germany, the place that is synonymous with beer. The hangout
almost feels like a submarine, with pipes and nozzles in the walls, a few of them with bulbs
fitted in the ends. If you like metal, this place will inspire you.
What we loved: The visual appeal, the feel of being in a much loved and familiar brewery.
Big Brewsky
Save
This, according to us, is the perfect pub – not too cluttered, not too spaced out either. The pool
in the centre adds to the beauty of the place. From the moment you step into this place, we are
sure you will be looking at the décor, and just the décor. This is one place anyone and
everyone will love.
What we loved: The mystical appeal of the place, the water body, the bar which is away yet
part of the action.
What you should try: Their in-house brews and mouth watering finger foods.
The decor at this place is English through and through! It has a dark and mysterious vibe too,
adding to the environment. Big lounging sofas and a neat bar area makes this one a darling.
What we loved: The dark and mysterious vibe, the comfy sofas, the leather chairs, the red
telephone booth.
Step in here, and the first thing you will notice is that the place is so very well segregated. The
brewery, the bar area, the seating - each area has a charm of its own. Each area looks different
from the rest. Mood lights are strategically placed to give the space great appeal. Book a table
here during the weekend, and see how this place turns into a social hub.
What we loved: The ambiance that make it so easy to have endless conversations.
Location: Magrath Road.
Hoppipola
Save
Want to do the happy dance? Come to Hoppipola. The décor here is so cheerful – light shades
mixing with deep hues to make it a place you would want to come to over and over again. This
is an ideal hangout for casual meetings.
What we loved: The cosmopolitan vibe, the all white walls, the pebbles, that colourful wall
that makes everything come alive.
Pecos
Save
Some people might ask - why Pecos? We love Pecos because it is the father of all pubs in
Bangalore – out of 100 people in the city, 99 would have had their first beer here! We don’t say
that - the owner says so! The décor here is top-notch, but what is worth talking about is the
music.
What we loved: The 70s feel that makes us wish we were born then.
Windmills Craftworks
Save
Windmills Craftworks is a class apart - in everything from the décor to the music, they have a
niche of their own. What we loved about the interiors here is the fact that the seating
arrangement is close, without looking cramped. The bookshelves on either side give the place a
study/lounge area-kind of air. The fact that you can choose between an open-air seating and a
cosy atmosphere inside is nice.
Location: Whitefield.
If you are looking for a spot which is buzzing with people and has the perfect pub atmosphere,
then this is it. The place is compact, packed with features from pubs in the US. The décor
comes to life during the evening, we noticed. What's more, they have great music too!
What we loved: The brick walls, the colourful chairs and those sofas.
District 6
Save
When you are someone who has been shortlisted for the Global Restaurant & Bar Design
Awards, London (for 2015), you certainly have something up your sleeve as far as the decor is
concerned. With its excellent interiors, this is a microbrewery you will love. What caught our
eye is how gorgeous the space looks from the outside – take a peek from the clear glass that
separate the streets and the brewery, and see if you don't want to go in! We were reminded of
diners in the West when we saw it for the first time.
What we loved: The overall international feel, a place to pop into after those long day
meetings.
What you should try: Their Tex-Mex cuisine and the brews.
Location: Malleshwaram.
The lounge is cleverly demarcated into four zones, each unique in its own way. All the zones
have been given equal importance, but, personally, we loved the sky-lounging area, a space
where you can enjoy the townscape while dining with friends and family.
Location: Malleshwaram.
Om Made Café
Save
Some places are meant to be experienced, and this is one such spot. The colours evoke the
simplicity and harmony of nature. Their alfresco area is like Adele – it is sure to touch your
heart. We suggest you visit the spot early in the morning or in the evening.
What we loved: The breath-taking view, the retro art on the walls
Monkey Bar
Save
In the pub world, this is what one would call 'cool'. Natural sunlight filters in though large
circular windows set up high on the wall, and the vibrant blues and yellows on the chairs gives
this space character. The space is irreverent, creative, and yet comfortable enough to sprawl
across a booth. Monkey Bar is a visual treat, that's for sure.
Further, the space spreads over two floors, giving one a sense of openness, allowing you to
enjoy the vibe at both levels. Creative graffiti dominates the bar area, while the retro posters
pop across the whole of the exposed walls.
What you should try: Pick anything from the menu! Their breakfast menu is one you should
look out for.

The interiors of this fine-dining restaurant beautifully blend glass, iron, and concrete, creating
a space that is industrial yet sleek. Designed by architect Ashish Kambli, the restaurant has an

the open lounge with its community tables and high bar stools. The seating at the restaurant is
varied, with low glass tables as well as high chairs and tables. The alfresco dining section has

was the knick-knacks on the white-coloured pillar here.
Smally’s Restocafé
Save
Like small, cute cafés? Then, Smally’s is for you. Unpainted walls give this place character,

the place perfectly.
What we loved: The doodles, the all white, bright and fresh walls.
What you should try: Pick anything and you cant go wrong.
When pop culture mixes with the bylanes of Manhattan, you get a place like this. The
illustrations and knick-knacks on the walls add to the comfy feel of the eatery. Another aspect
that makes this place a must-visit one is the fact that it is not brightly lit. The grey walls make it
all the more appealing.
What we loved: The bar area, we are suckers for illustrations on walls.
No wonder they call this place a ‘boutique restaurant’ – it has subtle class written all over it. It
you want something upbeat, but not too much of it, then this is the spot for you. We love the
Mediterranean feel of the restaurant, the way the light peeks through the roof, and how the
place doesn’t follow the usual ‘chair and table’ concept. Further, the doodles on the walls make
the space look visually enriching.

The interior here is as funky and subtle as the name. Easy Tiger has all you would want in a
bar/pub really. A neat drinks counter, check! Comfortable seating, check. Good, pocket friendly
food check!
Serengeti
Save
As the name suggest, the folks at this experience restaurant have tried to create a jungle like
feel, and have succeeded, we must say. The atmosphere is romantic and clam and adds to the
dining experience.
Location: Madivala.
Silver Metro
Save
Another themed restaurant if you have not eaten or travelled in a train… ever. And we add,
the experience is spot on. The décor given the exact vibes and the food is excellent! This is
definitely one train that serves good food, pun intended.
Location: Madivala.
Boca Grande
Save
A place with minimalist vibes. This venue also draws subtly from pop culture and jazz. You
will notice that everything in the spot is simple, but that what gives it an upper hand.
Hangover
Save
Now this is what we call ‘having some serious attitude’ and they have a Volkswagen van inside
the pub, which is commendable! The space is striking, lively and is filled with young
Bangaloreans who just want to spend some quality time on a weekend.
Ok, this is not just another got-to fast food joint; if we were doing a story about fast food places
with character this one would surely make it to the list. We like how the space is split into
sections and is accompanied by bright-coloured interiors and lights.
What we loved: The different take on decor and interesting use of wood.
News Café
Save
This could easily be your weekend hangout spot. What caught our eye is that the space
distributed between a closed and an open space and there is a bar in the alfresco area. Plus,
the seating arrangement in the open area is a tad formal which the closed space has a lounge
sort of a feel. The walls are bight with doodle and paintings that draw the sense of the place.
The best alfresco area we have seen so far, maybe it’s because of the green cushions that good
well, with the space that looks like a canopy. Further, the insides are as chic as the outsides
too. One of the bar area is near the stairs, while the other is in the main space. This one feels
like a dream come true.
If you are thinking doodles and pop art, this one wins hands down. Indigo Live Bar is not a
pub/grub place it’s an experience. Well why not, when you have international artists like Ben
Allen and Sickboy doing up the space in and around the bar and the seating area it is a steal.
Everything here is worth checking out – right from the stage light arrangements to the private
lounging, to the alfresco area, even the restrooms! Everything here cries out pop art… lungs
out.
What we loved: The artsy element and the colourful back drop at the bar.
What you should try: The cocktails and the finger food.
Elements
Save
One of the best steak places in Bangalore, this space give out a rustic/vintage vibe. Right from
the lights to the flooring, Elements has the interiors down to the T. Visit once and you would
want to visit again and again.
bFlat
Save
bFlat is small, but chic and has a charm of its own. One you enter you will notice that the walls
a filled with pop culture icons, but what we adored is the fact that they are not overly done. A
cute bar lies just opposite to the stage, which is surrounded they lounge chairs and low table.
All make for an evening packed with live performance and food, this place is know for.
What you should try: The cocktails, finger food, their Thai delicacies
Sunny’s
Save
Feels like a bungalow converted into a dining space. There are various elements that we liked
about the interiors here – things like the structure of the building and how it add to the feel of
the place, the chic wooden pillar and a veranda over-looking the alfresco space outside. The
interiors are comfortable, bright and adds to the experience.
What we loved: That tree right in the midst and the beautiful house like setting
What you should try: The breakfast menu, their salads, the endless variety
When you have a décor so subtly eye-catching, how can we miss this one? We love the
interiors, more so we like how things are placed, makes it more pleasing to the eye. And the all
wooded option on the insides adds to the fee as well. If you want a more reserved dining
experience they have a private section too.
Mangrove
Save
With a ground and second level, this restaurant in Kalyan Nagar is simple, yet catches your
eye. The wood works on the ceiling of the top floor with the mood lights makes the space look
vibrant, while the colourful cushions and long benches in the ground floor add a home-like
feel to the space. The walls and the window are contrasting too.
Location: Banasawadi.
Barleyz
Save
It time you relaxed at this roof-top beer garden. What makes this spot a sight is that it’s that the
alfresco area has no roof over your head! Further the space has a neat bar and an area where
you can lounge with your friends. They have a closed space too.
What we loved: The open-air space gives the feeling of a long endless evening.
Village
Save
The place has a feel of a village during a festival season. More so, we were mildly reminded of
the set of Sholay. The colourful setting and the pictures of Bollywood personalities give out a
dhaba sort of a feel. The figurines, the tree and the jail décor (near the kitchen) play with your
imagination.
What we loved: The old Bollywood charm, the Indian rustic village comes alive.
Location: Jayanagar.
When the décor has rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia all over, and music to compliment, how can
anyone complain and comment about the decor, need we write more?
What you should try: Are you kidding… the burgers, of course!
