High-level dialogs enable the quick creation of powerful triggers and pre- and post-
capture filters (see Figure 3). These filters empower engineers to capture and analyze
only those events and sequences of interest. As an example, an engineer can filter on
SD or SDIO commands in either the host-to-device or device-to-host direction.
The powerful trigger sequencer has 12 levels, including 2 timer and 2 counter levels.
This enables triggering on various SD or SDIO events (see Figure 4). Triggers may also
be set up for a variety of hardware and software errors.
Once data is captured, the software simplifies analysis by organizing and grouping the
captured bus data into different displays. Command sequences are summarized in the
Command Listing display u.
The State Listing  displays a chronological list of all captured events. For each
event, this display shows the Store #, Timestamp, Command Count, Command Data,
Command Description, Response Count, Response Data, Response Description, Data
Count, Data, Direction of Data, and Data Description.
The Timing Waveform  shows a signal level representation of the trace, with each
row representing a channel or channel group. The user may reorder the rows or change
colors. Data maybe displayed in hex, decimal, binary or ASCII formats.
The histogram’s  primary purpose is a navigation aid, showing an overall map view
of the entire trace. Commands, data, and errors are shown in blue, green, and red,
respectively. A User Term can be defined and is shown in purple.
The SD/SDIO analyzer supports the latest SD and SDIO specifi-cations. It supports
high-capacity/high-speed SD memory card, 1-bit, 4-bit, and SPI modes, and security
commands. The Bus Doctor analyzer is also available in three configurations: SLIM,
FIT and BUFF. These models have capture buffers of 16, 64 and 256 million events

respectively. A 256 million-event buffer translates to over 4.6 GBs of physical memory.
Two types of interposer boards come standard with the MC pod. One provides ZIF
connectors for connecting CE-ATA hosts and devices. The other provides MMC/SD/
SDIO connectors for tapping networks directly, as well as for use with native MMC
hosts and devices and SD and SDIO hosts and devices.

Secure Digital Format

Secure Digital (SD) is a flash memory card format used in many of today’s portable
products, including digital cameras and handheld devices. The technology was con-
ceived in early 2000 when Toshiba, Panasonic, and SanDisk established the SD Card
Association, an organization tasked with setting industry stan-
dards and promoting wide acceptance and adoption of the SD
format for digital applications. Today, flash memory comprises a
$16B market growing at a 40% CAGR, with a large portion of that
growth coming from SD.
SD slots can be used for more than just storage. They can provide a
flexible and fast I/O interface to allow SD-enabled products (hosts)
to access and utilize a wide variety of peripherals. Ethernet adapters,
FM radio tuners, and digital cameras are just a small sampling of
peripherals available to serve this market.Expanding the capabilities
of a cellular phone or a PDA can be as simple as plugging in one of
these peripherals.
