Electric Mining Shovels


Bucyrus shovels are primarily used in loading haul trucks
with overburden and ore during the mining process. Bucyrus
continues to improve the design and technology of mining
shovels to provide customers with maximum productivity and
cost effectiveness. Through pioneering efforts with the latest
technology, Bucyrus produces a shovel with superior digging
forces and rapid cycle times. Global mining customers rely on

Bucyrus factory-trained service engineers are available
throughout the world to provide our customers with the
support necessary for meeting their production
requirements. Our service engineers have the
knowledge and experience to bring a
successful result to the most demanding

by Bucyrus’ team of engineers who
have the design-based knowledge not
available from other sources.
HydraCrowd
The HydraCrowd represents the
first new electric loading shovel
crowd technology developed in
the past 70 years. A hydraulic
cylinder inside the tubular dipper
handle eliminates the crowd
retract ropes and rack and pinion
gearing. Downtime associated
with unplanned events is greatly
minimized. Major maintenance
for the HydraCrowd cylinder is
scheduled every 24 months, a
great time savings from the routine
maintenance required for rope and
rack and pinion crowd systems. The
HydraCrowd system is controlled
with proven Bucyrus IGBT technology and has complete
diagnostic and troubleshooting information with step-by-
step instructions. Designed for all mining environments
including cold weather, high altitude and high temperature.
The HydraCrowd ensures each shovel will be able to deliver
maximum productivity in the harshest climates.

AC Drive Technology
Bucyrus is well known as a technology leader. With over 25
years of AC drive system experience, there are currently over
200 AC drive electric mining shovels commissioned and
operating worldwide.
