About Sakal International Learning Centre


Sakal International Learning Centre (SILC) is the education vertical of the 8-decade old, trusted Sakal Media
Group. Launched with the objective of building leaders for transformational change, SILC's focus is on
providing a contemporary and practical learning environment to students, equipping them to emerge winners
in an ever-changing and challenging milieu. Knowledge up-gradation is the key component for growth and
success.
Agriculture is one such sector that has seen growth and newer dimensions by way of advancements in
technology, resources and opportunities. Maharashtra still remains on the forefront of agricultural
advancements with an impressive number of progressive farmers and professionals. The state has also
witnessed entry of non-farming community showing interest in agriculture especially in the areas of dairy and
food technology & management. Sakal International Learning Centre (SILC) has been working towards up-
skilling such professionals and small, medium marginal/ progressive farmers through various short and long
term courses.
The center has offered 250+ courses in various areas that cover Agriculture, Media, Business,
Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Import Exports etc. SILC has trained over 13,500 participants since
2013, out of which agriculture related programmes conducted in 19 location across Maharashtra.
In years to come SILC has structure plans to associate with leading global universities.

Scope of Agriculture
India is known as "Land of Villages". The agriculture markets of India are the largest amongst any other
market. Today, India ranks second worldwide in farm output. Agriculture and allied sectors like forestry
and fisheries accounted for 13.7% of the GDP (gross domestic product), about 50% of the workforce.
India exported $39 billion worth of agricultural products and made it the seventh largest agricultural
exporter worldwide and the sixth largest net exporter. Most of its agriculture exports serve developing
and least developed nations.
Indian agricultural/horticultural and processed foods are exported to more than 120 countries, primarily
in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, SAARC countries, the EU and the United States.

SILC's Post Graduate Programme in Agri Business Management is a unique programme for enterprising students
who intend to shape their career. What makes this programme so unique is its design. The content of the
programme comes from the successful entrepreneurs and professionals from the field of agriculture, export, dairy

new trends, better practices and futuristic technological applications. This exposure enables the students to
sharpen their managerial skills.
Smart Village Project
An ambitious project undertaken by Sakal to create smart villages in districts of Maharashtra, where emphasis was
given to increase the agriculture output from the farms by adopting the latest technologies and practices under the
guidance of global agriculture experts. The students were given exposure to these leading practices and also had to
survey the local to understand the issues currently faced by them. This project provided the students of SILC an
opportunity to understand the gaps in current infrastructure and how to bridge the gap by adopting the latest
practices in agriculture.

The objective of the workshop was to give participants information on latest developments in the area of their
interest and connect them to the community of all participants who have been associated with SILC. It was
aimed at creating an ongoing platform of learning for them through various forthcoming initiatives at SILC. All
the participants who were trained at SILC that includes progressive farmers and professionals, entrepreneurs
and executives / mangers from agro-based industries took part in the event. The attendees included all trainer
faculties, professionals, bureaucrats, bank officials and industrialist who have imparted training at SILC.

Rural Immersion Programme - Field Research Project (FRP)


Rural Immersion Programme is unique initiative that was instituted with an objective to sensitize the budding
managers and entrepreneurs of this institute towards the various schemes undertaken by the government in
villages and to study and analyze their execution and effectiveness. Spread over a week, the programme’s main
objective was provide insights into the various dimensions of district level administration, focusing primarily on
the policy administration and the execution gaps, while dispelling several stereotypes associated with the rural
population at large.

Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria :
The candidate must hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Agriculture Sciences or in Agriculture related disciplines, of any of the Universities incorporated
by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University
under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
The candidates who do not have formal education in Agriculture or Agriculture related disciplines but have at least a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification
in any other discipline from a University or Institution and a strong interest in Agriculture, Agro/Food Processing, Rural and Allied Sectors are eligible to apply.
