Villages have been the foundation for the country’s culture, economy, the livelihood of citizens, and the political system. India is in
the midst of structural shifts that include increased urbanization and demand for nutritional food, coupled with the emergence of
an upwardly-mobile-middle-class population. The solution for resilient national development is sustainable and inclusive rural
transformation. Multi-faceted technology-driven approaches would bring in equitable rural development, overcoming stresses
including land and water degradation, climate change, health hazards, mobilising adequate investments into agricultural
technology and rural infrastructure. These transformations would facilitate generating adequate productive employment and
eradication of poverty, besides establishing of stable value chain ecosystem, augmenting the growth rate of the economy. In the
digital era, adoption of pervasive digital technologies is anticipated to metamorphose the entire life-cycle of a conventional village
system, leading to the increase in income and prosperity, ensuring inclusivity across the population.

This agriculture-led Rural Development Conference has
focused sessions on Agro Ecosystem for Sustainable Rural
Development; Fostering Inclusive for Rural Development;
Digital Villages: India’s Next-Gen Powerhouse; Farming 4.0:
Technology Application for Agri Value Chains; and Going Digital
for Rural Livelihood.
This Conference will facilitate Government and policy-makers;
scientists, engineers, and technologists; academicians; and
non-governmental organizations share thoughts and
perspectives on how technologies can help promote
agricultural productivity and food & nutritional security at a
national level; increase household income and assets;
promote human and social empowerment.

oriented towards “Ease of Living” in a village
livelihood. Deployment that would transform
independent standalone villages/ clusters into
Smart Village Clusters, integrated into the
nationalmanifestation and polity for uniform and
sustainable progress.
This publication will be released during the
Low Resource Consumption
Inaugural Function of the “AgRuTech2018”, and
also shared with the decision-makers in the Central,
State Governments and with other stakeholders
involved with rural development.

one as majority of our Indian population, nearly
70% according to the current census, reside in
villages. We have about 6, 40,000 villages and

million with no clean drinking water and around
