YSC's individual profiling process has won recognition as being amongst the most thorough and
incisive in the business. It comprises an in-depth half-day interview combined with psychometric
tools. The results of these tests are then used as the basis of a discussion with the individual in order
to help build as full a picture as possible of what makes them distinctive. It is an assessment we make
in the context of the 25,000 business leaders we have profiled.

The result is a report which describes the person’s characteristics, on-the-job strengths and
development needs, as well as predicting how they will perform. It can be used both by the individual
and the business to plan development or to make recruitment decisions. The client, however, also has
the option of a two hour feedback session which provides an opportunity to discuss the report and
start building on the insights it offers. This can then be further supported by a programme of
coaching, either from the YSC consultant who conducted the assessment or a recommended
colleague.

We help organisations to identify and embed the values and behaviours necessary to deliver their
business objectives. We work with top teams to determine both the helpful and inhibiting aspects of
their culture and to describe a new way of working that reflects their vision and values as leaders.
Through a combination of workshops and one-to-one coaching, we support managers across the
business to make the attitudinal and behavioural shifts required to lead a new way of working at
individual, team and organisational level.

• LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Development Workshops are produced in partnership with the client, and dove-tailed to meet specific
requirements. They may include 360 degree feedback, self-evaluation, paper-and-pencil exercises,
business simulations, group discussions around key business challenges and didactic input in aspects
of management and leadership skills. The emphasis throughout is on creating an environment
conducive to learning, and creating a compelling and motivating development plan that builds on
insightful development.

compared to leading teams. We go beyond simple team dynamics to explore issues such as the team’s

As in many other areas of performance - sporting and artistic - coaching has established itself as the
way in which the best business people get better. It is primarily future-focused, targeting techniques
and insights that make a positive and profound difference to personal business effectiveness. It offers
guidance when requested and push-back when needed. It provides a safe place to talk, explore and
rehearse so that the individual is in a position to stretch themselves to a fuller expression of their
potential.

We use a structured approach in our coaching engagements, one which defines the destination and
maps the route to get there. We recognise that demanding development goals need to be specific and
measurable if both the client and their organisation are to have a sense of direction and progress. It is
this solid underlying structure that, we believe, allows us to be truly flexible. We encourage an initial
3-way meeting between client, manager and coach to establish mutual goals, and then look to
respond flexibly to what is necessarily a dynamic process.

Survey Products
• 360 STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK

Measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions is of paramount importance at whatever


level change occurs. Psymmetry, our surveys division, has expertise in the administration of both
behavioural surveys and 360° feedback tools. These include our innovative Pulse feedback™
instrument, which initiates a mini-360° at specified intervals over the course of a year. This allows an
individual to support their personal growth by monitoring change on up to six dimensions.

• LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL

YSC has assessed 25,000 senior business people over the past sixteen years. This unrivalled
experience has informed our Potential Model, our distillation of the key qualities to be found in highly
successful leaders. Now available as, an online psychometric, it takes twenty-five minutes to complete
and generates a report which scores an individual against each of nine capabilities indicating
leadership potential.

• CULTURAL INDEXES

When the culture of an organisation is at issue – specifically its ability to win strong loyalty from
employees and customers alike - another approach is required. Here we employ a survey based on
research into today's most successful organisations and encapsulated in our book, Meaning Inc.
(Gurnek Bains et al, Profile Books 2007). Our Meaning InQ Survey allows an organisation to assess
the extent to which it shares the characteristics of high performing, Meaning Inc. organisations, or of
their shadow side – Attention Deficit or Soulless organisations. Meanwhile, cutting edge Discourse
Analysis techniques offer a 'deep dive' into any of the language used within an organisation to uncover
underlying values and the levers that might drive deeper engagement and sustainable performance.
