What is it?
Speed
Boycott Advance is not a fast emulator. You will not get consistent full frame rate on this
emulator if you do not have a G4 running at at least 600MHz. Boycott Advance is not
designed to be a substitute for the real system - if you want to play GBA games, buy a
GBA.
Boycott Advance can use a real Gameboy Advance BIOS image, although it is not
required. This must be named gbasys.bin and be placed in the Boycott Advance folder.
DO NOT ASK ME TO SEND YOU THIS FILE. Note that some games work better with
the real BIOS, and some work better without. Your mileage may vary :)
Version History
- Updated to shell version 1.6. See "About the Shell" for changes.
- Updated to shell version 1.5. See "About the Shell" for changes.
- Updated to shell version 1.4.1. See "About the Shell" for changes.
- Added support for 128K flash. This allows Mario Advance 4 to work (and maybe
others).
- Updated to shell version 1.3.1. See "About the shell" document for changes.
- Updated to shell version 1.1. See "About the shell" document for changes.
- Added support for joysticks under Mac OS X. Note that this requires a copy of Blitter
Library.
- New and improved automatic frameskipping code. Automatic frameskip should now
give the optimal frame rate at all times. (I will be rolling this code out to my other
emulator ports as I get time to do so).
- In sync with the latest code for Windows. Notable changes include improved
compatibility and some optimizations.
- In sync with v0.23 for Windows. The new code adds a number of compatibility
improvements over the previous release. Be aware that the BIOS image must now be
named "gbasys.bin" instead of "bios.gba".
- Battery RAM and Quick Freezes are now saved in their own folders.
In sync with the latest code for Windows. Notable changes include:
- The emulator has been sped up significantly, thanks to some work by Gil Pedersen.
- Underclocking option removed. It was no longer feasable now that sound has been
implemented. The speed hit has been offset somewhat, however, by a lot of
optimizations.
- Sprite scaling and rotation implemented.
Note that this version is not precisely equivalent to v0.2.0 for Windows. Julien released
his version and then went on holiday, without mailing the source code around. I took the
code that was sent around that evening (a few hours later) and this version is based on
that.
