INTRODUCTION
This manual provides information on installation and operation of the DVN 100-NET video
codec. The DVN 100-NET is a standalone, non-PC based, fully embedded video codec
capable of encoding and decoding video and audio from an analog video/audio source in real
time. It is compatible with any analog camera and incorporates a fully integrated, stereo
audio channel and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) control (RS 485). The DVN 100-NET can also be
combined with the powerful DVN 5000 Series platform for video/audio recording and
playback, alarm and auxiliary handling, and intelligent motion detection.
The DVN 100-NET uses MPEG4 compression technology implemented in the hardware to
provide up to 30 IPS (images per second) for the ultimate in crisp, clear, high resolution,
full-frame images. Image resolution consists of 720x576 pixels (PAL) or 720x480 pixels
(NTSC), and both image compression and image resolution can be adjusted.
PTZ controls, fully-integrated in DVN 100-NET, are exceptionally responsive with virtually
no latency, regardless of the available bandwidth. PTZ-capable cameras can be controlled
from any network-connected workstation. Easy, intuitive control of movement is available
with the PTZ graphic control panel.
The DVN 100-NET also includes an alarm input and auxiliary relay output. The alarm input
can be connected to an input device such as a motion detector or passive infrared detector
(PIR), and can be monitored using the VisionPocket and SiteManager client software
applications. When the input device triggers an alarm, VisionPocket and SiteManager can
detect it in real-time, notify the user, and respond accordingly (trigger an auxiliary relay
output, such as sounding an alarm or turning on a light).
NOTE
The faceplate of some DVN 100-NET units may display AUDIO ports labeling
that is different from the one described in this manual. However, regardless of
the labeling, functionality of those ports is as specified in this document.

required for RS232.
2. Kalatel KTD-312 converter required for RS232.
The DVN 100-NET decoder mode supports a quad view feature, which enables the
unit to display a view of up to four MPEG4 cameras from a DVN 5000 or other
DVN 100-NET server (in encoder mode) on a single spot monitor. For more
information, see “DVN 100-NET Quad View Spot Monitor Feature” on page 3-22.
Autoconnection
A DVN 100-NET in decoder mode can display live or recorded MPEG4 compressed
images onto a monitor from up to four different cameras connected to another
DVN 100-NET unit (in encoder mode) or DVN 5000 Series server. The
Autoconnection setup section allows you to configure the connection settings,
enabling the DVN 100-NET to receive the images from the other DVN unit.
NOTE
The number of decoders selected on the Client Setup page determines the
number of Autoconnection pages available to configure. That is, each
decoder has its own configuration settings.
On screen display
In decode mode, the DVN 100-NET can display status and network information
over the video image stream on a monitor. The On screen display setup section
allows you to configure the display settings.
NOTE
On screen display text is not supported in quad view mode. See “DVN
100-NET Quad View Spot Monitor Feature” on page 3-22 for more
information.
NOTE
Audio is not supported in quad view mode. See “DVN 100-NET Quad View
Spot Monitor Feature” for more information.
NOTES
Video sources are not limited to cameras connected to a DVN 5000, as
shown in Figure 3-2. A DVN 100-NET in encoder mode can also be used as a
video source.
The Quad View feature can also be configured using the SiteManager client
software. Refer to the VisionPocket and SiteManager Software User Manual
for more information.
The Quad View feature does not support audio, on screen display text, and
camera cycling on a spot monitor. However, these features are supported in
single view mode.
When using the Quad View feature, we strongly recommend limiting each
camera to CIF resolution at 30 Frames Per Second (FPS) (or 4CIF resolution
at a maximum of 10 FPS). Increasing the resolution and/or FPS will overload
the DVN 100-NET CPU, which will delay the time it takes to display the video.
When viewing a single video stream, you may use 4CIF at a higher FPS.
Camera video compressed with Wavelet or Enpacta codecs are not
supported in quad view mode – only video compressed with the MPEG4
codec can be viewed in this mode. If you add a video source that uses
Wavelet or Enpacta compression to a quad view quadrant, the spot monitor
will display only a black background.

Before configuring the date and time settings of the DVN 100-NET, determine
whether you will synchronize the DVN’s clock with an NTP server or manually
configure the date and time settings. If you synchronize the DVN’s clock with an
NTP server, you do not have to manually set the current date and time, assign a time
zone, or configure the DST settings, since the DVN’s clock settings will be
configured according to the date and time settings of the NTP server.
To manually configure the DVN 100-NET’s clock settings, set the
DVN 100-NET’s current date and time (see “Manual setting” on page 3-24), set the
time zone (see “Timezone and DST” on page 3-26), and set the DST settings, if
applicable (see “Timezone and DST” on page 3-26).
To synchronize the DVN’s clock with an NTP server, enter the NTP server
information according to “NTP Client” on page 3-25.
To view the current date and time configuration settings, click Date and time.
Manual setting
This option allows you to manually set the current date and time of the
DVN 100-NET. If you are synchronizing the DVN 100-NET’s clock with an NTP
server, you do not have to manually configure these settings. See “NTP Client” on
page 3-25.
NTP Client
NTP, or Network Time Protocol, enables the clocks of two or more DVN units to
stay synchronized, which is important when transmitting real-time video and audio
data across a network. Units can be synchronized by querying a server on the
network. Because they base their clocks on the same source, they remain
synchronized.
The NTP Client setup section allows you to synchronize the DVN 100-NET unit
with a server on the network simply by entering the server’s IP address and port.
Remote Reboot
This option enables you to reboot the DVN 100-NET from a remote location.
Click Yes to reboot the DVN 100-NET, or click No to cancel the action.
NOTE
After you remotely reboot the DVN 100-NET, you will be disconnected from
the unit. Wait a minute before attempting to log back on.
Factory Default
This option allows you to restore the DVN 100-NET’s factory default settings.
Click Yes to restore the factory default settings, or click No to cancel the action.
NOTE
After restoring the unit’s factory default settings, the IP address will revert
to the original setting and you will not be able to access the unit with its
current settings. Run the DVN100Browser.exe application to locate the
unit on the network and perform an initial setup. See “DVN 100-NET Initial
Setup” on page 3-1.
Status
This option allows you to view network, video, and connection information
associated with the unit, including the unit’s current firmware version. Use the
Network option to view the network connection configuration settings, such as the
network addresses.
The Video option indicates whether a video feed is connected or disconnected when
in encoder mode or provides debugging information (for internal use only) when in
decoder mode.
The Connections option allows you to view information on the computers that are
currently connected to the DVN 100-NET. The DVN 100-NET supports up to 6
simultaneous connections in encoder mode and 4 in decoder mode.
Exit Setup
When you are finished performing a full setup, click this option to close the setup
page. The login page appears.
It offers full remote live viewing, full PTZ camera control, and stereo audio transmission of
encoded audio input, such as audio from a microphone. Johnson Controls’ true-client server
architecture and a built-in web server provide you with a web browser-based client software
capable of delivering extremely high quality live video and audio, as well as full PTZ camera
