Cylinder Head Part Numbers — ASET™ Engines

A revised inlet valve seat insert was introduced into OEM cylinder head production during
January 2005, and revised inlet valves were introduced during June and July 2005. The
current OEM ASET™ AC cylinder head and valve assembly part numbers are in stock in the
MACK Parts System effective September 2005. Effective with the issuance of this service
bulletin, the cylinder head and valve assembly part numbers shown below are to be used for
field replacements within the following guidelines:
앫 Use a Reman cylinder head and valve assembly if available.
앫 If a Reman cylinder head and valve assembly is not available, use a new OEM cylinder
head and valve assembly.
앫 DO NOT use a cylinder head that does not include the valves and related components.

ASET™ AI and AMI engines do not require the revised inlet valve seat inserts or the revised
inlet valves. Changes were made to the ASET™ AI and AMI production and OEM cylinder
heads for standardization purposes only.

Service Information and Recommendations

Valve yoke guide pins are utilized at the exhaust valve positions on cylinder heads used on
brake-equipped engines. Cylinder heads used on non-brake engines DO NOT utilize
exhaust valve yoke guide pins.

OEM cylinder head and valve assemblies are supplied in both part number versions (with or
without exhaust valve yoke guide pins). If a remanufactured cylinder head is not available
and an OEM cylinder head must be used, the correct OEM part number (with or without
exhaust valve yoke guide pins as required) should be used.

If the only available OEM cylinder head has valve yoke guide pins and they are not needed,
or does not have guide pins and they are needed, the head can be converted by either
removing or installing the guide pins as required for the application.

Remanufactured cylinder head and valve assemblies are supplied only in the part number
versions that include exhaust valve yoke guide pins. When using a remanufactured cylinder
head and valve assembly on a non-brake engine, the exhaust valve yoke guide pins must be
removed.

Mack Trucks, Inc. engages in a continuous program of testing and evaluating to provide the
best possible product. Mack Trucks, Inc., however, is not committed to, or liable for updating
