Building Families for the Great Commission

Dear Praying Friend,

What a beautiful time of year to further consider the theme of joyful service. After all, was it not the Lord Jesus who was called the Suffering Servant? Although the time we
remember the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord may not be in sync with the actual date, we need not be prevented from celebrating in a pure way, without the
trappings and overtones of pagan history. This month, let us take a look at some Biblical figures whom God prepared for His service. What does it take for us to be prepared to
be a servant in the spirit and power of our Lord Jesus?

Joseph is the first figure that comes to mind (Gen. 37-47). His preparation involved painful rejection by his brothers; character defamation by Potiphar’s wife; and the ultimate
disgrace and hurt of unjust imprisonment. Joseph was being prepared for service in a great position of notable honor and influence. Hence the deep measure of pain in
preparation. The greater the pain, it is said, the greater the place of service. I would add, when it is sanctified by the Lord.

Israel, God’s people were also being prepared for great service. Their service entailed representing their God, to the nations around, as the one true God. Since they failed in
this calling, they had to be brought back to a place of noble service. They first lamented after the LORD (1 Sam. 7:2). In their yearning, they were given hearts to turn to the
LORD. Upon turning, they had to tear out their idols and repent of their sins. Jesus said that, if necessary, we must take drastic measures to part with our sins. “If thy right eye
offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee…” (Matt. 5:29). God will only use those who are serious about parting with their sin issue - those who will not only “pluck it
out”, but “cast it” far from them, and who will “stay away from every appearance” of it (1 Thess. 5:22). Joyful service comes only to those who will pay such a price. Finally,
God prepared Saul for service, as the first king of Israel. Saul received new power (1 Sam. 10:6, 10); new relationships (10:26); and a new heart, “God changed his heart”
(10:9). May we too be prepared for joyful service.

Please join us in praying for the Living the Set-Apart Life ministry to the millennial generation and those that come after. The Lord opened a door at the Newark Christian School
for the message, of the separated life, to be taught to young people by way of a Life Skills class. Please pray that the seeds may bear fruit that will remain, impacting their
generation and generations to come with a passion for set-apart living. Please pray, also, for more open doors.
