Twin Primes
Twin Primes are when two prime numbers are separated by one composite number. When you
multiply the twin prime numbers together and add one to the number it will always be divisible
by 36. For example 11 and 13, or 17 and 19 they work as twin prime numbers. The only twin
prime combination that doesn’t work is 3 and 5.
Twin Prime Examples that Work:
a b a*b+ 1
(5*3)= 15+1=16
3 5
16/36= .44
(5*7) = 35+1=36
5 7
36/36= 1
(11*13)= 143+ 1= 144
11 13
144/ 36 = 4
(17*19) =323+1= 324
17 19
324/36= 9
(29*31)= 899+1= 900
29 31
900/36= 25
(41*43) = 1763= 1764
41 43
1764/36= 49
(59*61) = 3599+ 1= 3600
59 61
3600/36= 100
(71*73)= 5183+1= 5184
71 73
5184/36= 144
(101*103)= 10,403+1= 10,404
101 103
10,404/ 36= 289
(107*109)= 11,663+1= 11,664
107 109
11,664/36=324

Solution:
Let 1st twin prime be n  11
Let 2nd twin prime be n+2  13
11*13 + 1= 144= 12 Squared
n * (n+2) +1 = (n+1) Squared
If n equals 11 and n+2 equals 13 when you multiply them together you get 143. Then add 1 and
get 144. Take 144 and divide by 36 to receive your answer of 4 or get 12 squared. With twin
primes you should always get a number that is in between your twin primes. Then if you square
that number you should receive the number if you multiplied the two prime numbers together
and added one.
11* 13+ 1= 144= 12 Squared
144=12 Squared
By the examples above you can see that pattern that we are following. Any Twin Prime numbers
when multiplied together and add one, the number you get will always be divisible by 36.

If you choose composite numbers that are separated by a number instead of prime numbers, this
formula doesn’t work. For example 9 and 11 do not work, along 12 and 14. No matter the
numbers that you pick that are not twin primes you will never get an answer that is divisible by
36.
Examples that do not Work:

a b a*b+ 1
(9*11) = 99+1=100
9 11
100/36 = 2.78
(12*14)=168+1= 169
12 14
169/36 = 4.694
(16*18)= 288+1= 289
16 18
289/36= 8.0278
(19*21)= 399+1 =400
19 21
400/36= 11.11
(21*23)= 483+1=484
21 23
484/36= 13.44
(28*30)=840+1=841
28 30
841/36= 23.3611
(34*36)= 1,224+1= 1,225
34 36
1,225/36= 34.0278
(42*44)= 1,848+1= 1,849
42 44
1,849/36= 51.361
(48*50)=2,400+1= 2,401
48 50
2,401/36= 66.6944
(54*56)=3,024+1 = 3,025
54 56
3,025/36= 84.0278
As you can see from the examples above there are no examples that have a whole number as an
answer.
Solution: If we used the same method as we did for the table above it would still work out,
because I used numbers that are two numbers apart from each other. The answer still works out
to be the number that separates the two numbers squared.
Let n= 9
Let n+2= 11
9*11 + 1= 100= 10 Squared
n * (n+2) +1 = (n+1) Squared
9* 11+1= 10 squared
