INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Nowadays, there are diverse options of transportation means around us, including manual

transportation and electric transportation. Nevertheless, manual transportation has been gradually

left behind by the people, although many of them still exist in several places here in our country.

Pedicab is an easy transportation in which services can be adjusted to the user's request and its

accommodation is provided by them.

While pedicabs are not popular here in Borongan City, there is an increase in their use

and visibility in places like Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) as one of the widest

university in the province where approximately 6,000 students and employees is considered as

one of the best target market for transportation business. From the fact that buildings are far from

each other, and others have to walk from the gate to the different colleges, students and

employees have difficulties in walking especially that the dry season is opt to come. This urges

businessmen to put up business like in transportation to resolve the unending plea of commuters.

Considering the existence of motor vehicles, they do not entertain the requests of the

students to take them to their desired destination within the campus. Mainly because of the

consumption of gasoline which would be costly on their part and their route is specifically only

from downtown to ESSU and vice versa. With these observations, there is a need to create a

transportation business that will cater the students, employees and residents who demands for a

short ride.
Inasmuch as society’s movement towards cleaner forms of transportation, it is

understandable that the public will be looking for new ways to transport themselves. This is why

non-motorized transportation business is introduced to cater the needs of the commuters.

Business Description

A pedicab business is a small, pedal-driven vehicle operated by a driver. Just as with taxi

cabs, customers hire pedicabs to take them to a desired destination; however, pedicabs are better

suited for short trips, as the cab's fuel is limited by the strength and endurance of the driver.

Pedicab businesses provide a clean, quiet, alternative form of short distance transportation. They

help time management of every student or an employee who are in a hurry. This business is

ideal for conservationists who want to help reduce carbon emissions. Active people who enjoy

working outdoors and interacting with customers are particularly well-suited for it. Preferred

customers include anyone able to pay the fare. This will also offer special trips like strolling

around the campus and trips that are beyond the regular or usual trip of the pedicab driver with a

special fare for each special trip.

Business Name

The name of the proposed project is “U.Cab” with the tag line “PEDICABa? Sakay na!..”

Type of business organization

The business will be sole proprietorship. The sole proprietorship is the simplest

business form under which one can operate a business. The sole proprietorship is a popular

business form due to its simplicity, ease of setup, and nominal cost. A sole proprietor need only

register his or her name and secure local licenses, and the sole proprietor is ready for business.
The key feature of the sole proprietorship definition is that unlike an incorporated

business or a partnership there is no legal separation between the business and the owner in a

sole proprietorship - the business is considered to be an extension of the owner and as such the

owner is personally responsible for any debts or liabilities incurred by the business.

Location of the project

The proposed project is located inside the campus of Eastern Samar State University,

Maypangdan, Borongan City. The project has its own terminal station wherein pedicabs are

stored and at the same time will serve as a starting point. However, it is in the discretion of the

pedicab driver to roam around the campus, where students and employees can easily access

them.

Project Background

Given the fact that the geographical area of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) is

wide and spacious because it is not solely an academic institution for there are also people

residing within the campus. Consequently, the proponent of this project reprise that there is a

demand on transportation business (pedicab) in the university. Establishing this project will

actually have multiple effects because of the time they spent in walking from the gate to their

respective college buildings and houses. One factor why it needs to have a pedicab in the

university is that, it will help the students and employees to be on time considering the distances

of their college buildings as well as to those people residing within the campus to cater them to

their desired destination at least possible time.
