PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

SAFEWAY INC., Pleasanton, CA 2012‒2016

QA Lead
 Led scheduling, implementation, and testing activities pertaining to software, hardware, and network changes in
multiple production-like test labs. Changes encompassed multiple functional areas, but were focused on point-of-sale
changes for grocery, fuel, and pharmacy systems that were deployed to hundreds of grocery stores across the
enterprise. Typically, 2-4 changes were under review on any given day. Average annual change volume approached
400 changes.
 Collaborated regularly with colleagues in release management, change management, lab management, deployment
services, and QA to test changes, ultimately preventing a significant number of failed changes from reaching real
production stores. Most colleagues were local, but some were located elsewhere in the U.S., Canada, and the
Philippines.
 Simplified and standardized key processes to facilitate doing more with less, allowing the addition of 2 production-
like test labs and the redeployment of a full-time resource elsewhere in the enterprise.
 Mitigated the prior reliance on undocumented regression tests to evaluate lab health by developing reusable
regression tests and procedures.
 Developed and implemented processes to collect and measure change activity and quality over time.
 Balanced management activities with hands-on testing activities.

FRONTRANGE SOLUTIONS INC., Pleasanton, CA 2008‒2012

 Led multiple and concurrent software testing projects across 3 product lines. The projects included feature and
maintenance releases. The product lines addressed customer relationship management (CRM) and utilized
client/server, web, and mobile (iPhone and iPad) technologies.
 Worked creatively with project stakeholders in product marketing, development, release engineering, and
documentation to deliver multiple releases.
 Managed, mentored, and trained onsite, remote, and offshore (Russia) test teams.
 Prepared the test strategy, plan, and schedule for each release and led the team through multiple test phases that
included: feature/function, integration, regression, install/uninstall/upgrade, and compatibility.
 Evaluated releases over time to identify software quality trends, facilitating the prioritization of improvement
initiatives.
 Developed and implemented basic metrics to track progress and measure test results, facilitating the on-time delivery
of projects with valuable insight into release quality.
 Created standards and templates for test estimates, test plans, test schedules, and test summaries, ensuring
consistency and enabling reuse across software releases.
 Adapted and implemented agile testing processes that enabled the identification of defects earlier in the SDLC, where
they were typically less expensive to address.
 Centralized the maintenance of virtual test environments, reducing maintenance costs and test environment issues.
 Developed the automation strategy and drove the effort to automate smoke testing using QTP, resulting in an
automated test that was used to ensure each new build met minimum quality requirements.
 Effectively balanced management responsibilities with hands-on testing activities.

SERENA SOFTWARE INC., San Mateo, CA 2003‒2008

 Led multiple and concurrent software testing projects across 6 product lines. These product lines addressed
enterprise change management, requirements management, and tools. The product lines utilized web, client/server,
and mainframe technologies.
 Worked resourcefully with project stakeholders to deliver 17 releases on time.
 Led, mentored, and trained onshore and offshore 3rd party (India) test teams.
 Interviewed and hired new team members.
 Formulated the automation strategy and drove the effort to automate regression testing, resulting in greater test
coverage, reduced costs, and improved time-to-market.
 Spearheaded the endeavor to migrate testing artifacts to a centralized storage repository. Thus enabling the check-in,
checkout, and versioning of testing artifacts, thereby improving control.
 Created standards and templates for software testing deliverables, ensuring consistency and enabling reuse across
software releases.
 Balanced management responsibilities with hands-on testing activities.
