RECAP: The Rainiers opened the 2018 season with a 5-0 shutout victory over Sacramento on Thursday night at Cheney Stadium. It was the
Rainiers first shutout in a home opener since the club blanked Sacramento 2-0 on April 3, 2008. Starter Christian Bergman allowed only 1 hits
while walking 1 and striking out 8 over 5.2 scoreless innings, but did not factor into the decision. RH Mike Morin (1.1,0,0,0,0,3) retired all 4
batters faced, including striking out 3, to record his first win of the season. RH Ryan Cook (1.0,1,0,0,0,1) and RH Chasen Bradford
(1.0,0,0,0,0,0) combined to toss a scoreless 8th and 9th innings to secure the win. DH Cameron Perkins (1x4, R, RBI), SS Zach Vincej (1x4, R,
RBI) and LF Ian Miller (1x2, RBI, SB, SF) each recorded 1 hit and drove in 1 of the Rainiers 5 runs.

• GETTING STARTED – Since 2000, the Rainiers have posted a record of 9-10 in the first game of the season, while out-scoring their
opponents 93-80…over that same stretch, Tacoma has gone 5-3 when kicking off the season at home.
• THE VETERANS – The Rainiers Opening Day roster features 17 players with nearly 2,400 games of Major League experience under
their belts…infielder Gordon Beckham leads the way, boasting 964 games across time with the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles
Angels, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle.
• PROSPECTS – Tacoma’s initial roster features three players ranked among Baseball America’s list of Top 30 Mariners prospects.
Leading the way is right-handed starting pitcher Max Povse at No. 6. He is followed by fellow right-handed starter Rob Whalen at No.
15 and outfielder Ian Miller at No. 19. All three players spent time with the Rainiers in 2017.
• WELCOME BACK – The Rainiers Opening Day roster features seven players who spent time with Tacoma in 2017. Pitchers
Christian Bergman, Pat Light, Max Povse, and Rob Whalen combined to make 59 appearances in a Rainiers uniform last
season…infielders Gordon Beckham and Danny Muno, along with outfielder Ian Miller, posted 214 games, 106 runs, and 84 RBI with
Tacoma in 2017.

RECAP: The Travelers opened the 2018 season with a 3-1 victory over San Antonio on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Trav pitchers
struck out 11 Missions and held San Antonio to just three hits on the night, two of which did not leave the infield. Stater Andrew Moore
(5.2,2,1,1,1,7,HR) allowed only a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning over 5.2 innings. Overall he allowed only 2 hits while walking 1 and
striking out 7 over 5.2 innings, but did not factor into the decision. RH Darrin Gillies (2.1,0,0,0,1,4) walked 1 and struck out 4 over 2.1
scoreless innings to earn his first career AA win, while RH Art Warren (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) tossed a scoreless 9th inning to pick up the save. 3B
Seth Mejias-Brean (2x4, 3B, RBI) recorded the team’s only multi-hit game, while CF Braden Bishop (1x4, R, BB), DH Dario Pizzano (1x3, R,
BB) and C Joe DeCarlo (1x3, R, 2B, BB) each collected 1 of the Travelers 5 hits.

• WELCOME BACK – 11 players who saw time on last season’s Travelers team return on the Opening Night roster this year...six
hitters are back including midseason All-Star Chuck Taylor...on the pitching side Lindsey Caughel is back after leading the TL in IP

• PROSPECTS ALERT – According to MLB.com’s pipeline rankings, six of the Mariners top 30 prospects are on the Travelers...OF
Braden Bishop (#5) heads the list joined by fellow top 10 prospect RHP Art Warren (#8)...Bishop and Warren put together stellar
2017 seasons and participated in the Arizona Fall League...also on the prospect list are LHP Anthony Misiewicz (#19), RHP Chase

RECAP: The Nuts scored 7 runs between the 3rd and 6th innings to tie the game 7-7, but it wasn’t enough as Modesto fell to Lancaster in the
season opener 7-9 in Thursday night. Starter Ljay Newsome (5.0,9,7,7,0,6,2HR) allowed 7 runs, all in the first 2.0 innings, on 9 hits while
walking 0 and striking out 6, but did not factor into the decision. LH Colin Rodgers (2.0,3,2,2,1,3,HR) recorded the loss after allowing a 2-out

MLB.com…Joe Rizzo is the top ranked prospect on the Opening Day roster at 6th according to MLB.com. RHP Wyatt Mills is 10th
according to MLB.com…Anthony Jimenez is 14th, Seth Elledge is 18th, Donnie Walton is 22nd, Bryson Brigman ranks 27th and
Kyle Wilcox is the 30th ranked prospect according to MLB.com.
REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Ben Gamel, who was on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain on March 28 (retro 3/26) began his
rehabilitation assignment with High-A Modesto on April 5…in his first game with the Nuts, Gamel went 1-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 2
walks…in 2016, Gamel hit .275 (140x509) with 68 runs scored, 27 doubles, 5 triples, 11 home runs, 59 RBI, 36 walks and 4 stolen bases in
134 games with Seattle.
