4. Students will identify at least one career that would match well with their learning
style.

Materials:
M.I. Student Surveys
Learning Style Posters
Reflection Handout
Pencils

Procedure:
1. Give pre-test to students.
2. Introduce topic of “Multiple Intelligences.”
I am wondering if anyone has an idea of what it means to have “multiple intelligences?”
Discuss.
Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of education at Harvard University, developed the
theory of multiple intelligences. The theory basically says that intelligence includes
many different areas and it’s not just based on your IQ score. It includes eight different
learning styles. One person might be considered “word smart” while another is “people
smart.” We will talk more about what these mean soon.
3. Activity
Today everyone is going to get the chance to see which learning styles are your top
strengths and also which areas you could grow in. We will start by having everyone
complete the survey (explain survey and scoring process (write on board), have
students work on survey, and offer additional support if needed.)
4. Once all students have completed their surveys have them circle their top two
learning styles – By raising your hand, who agrees with their top learning style?
5. In just a minute I will be calling out a learning style. When I call out your learning
style come on up and one person will take the poster and everyone will need to pick up
a reflection sheet (explain reflection sheet). You will need a pencil and something to
write on top of (if you have a tie between learning styles, choose one). Once you get to
your spot, you will read about the learning style and complete your reflection handout
(Have students move to area and complete reflection paper, offer additional support if
needed, observe).
6. Now that we have all have had the chance to read about and reflect on our learning
style, I would like to hear from our “Body Smart” group about 2 things you learned
about your learning style (Continue asking questions from the reflection handout and
encouraging participation from different students).
7. Wrap Up
Why is it important to know your top learning styles? (Helps you to know your strengths,
can help with studying, can help in choosing classes in high school and for career
searching)
Can you get better at the learning styles you scored low in? (Yes – growth mindset!)

Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?

Process Data:
Administer the pre-test; teach the lesson on multiple intelligences and learning styles;
administer the post-test. All fifth grade students will participate in this lesson.
Perception Data:
Pre and post-test responses will be compared to determine acquired knowledge.

Outcome Data:
Monitor grades and test scores.
