1. Write something about yourself.

Hi! My name is Louie John C. Abila just call me “Loy” for short. I’m 19 turning
20 on May 7, 1998 and I live in Mt. Kitanglad Street Purok 4 Poblacion Valencia City
Bukidnon for 25 years. Actually I’m the only son of Mrs. Lorenzo Mendez Abila.
Regarding my Education, in 2015, he was admitted at Central Mindanao University at Musuan,
Maramag Bukidnon under the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I decided to took up nursing
because it is my profession, and my “calling”. And also I want to care patient’s who are sick or
will especially in our beloved country. But I realized that this is not enough for our daily needs
particularly fiscal or financial and so I conceive that it is better to go abroad together with my
relatives that is a filipino nurse in Washington US.

I’m interested in science especially in nursing profession, music, sports like badminton
and chess. Computers first appered in my life when I was 11. Then I had got my first
computer. That it was the best thing in the world. I was playing it whenever I could. Then
I had got my first PC. At first, I was just playing computer games.
My favorite music band is Maroon 5. I think it is the best group on the earth like the song
moves like jagger, payphone and ect.
I have always been good at sports. I like playing badminton, Chess, takraw and specially
ping pong.I have won many medals. My favorite intellectual game is chess, but I have
never played it professionally.

My dream is to be a professional advocate, professional healthcare, I want to be a

NURSE and to go to Washington US together with my relatives. I love everything
associated with this country. and I hope that in the future, I will learn something new
dealing with new culture, beliefs, tradition and especially dealing with yummy foods. I
want to go to WA US and stay there for a long time. I want to get a job there as a Nurse.
Now, I try to practice by myself. I already know some difficult words . My parents
promised me that if I learn English well, they will buy a new phone.
I hate spiders. When I see a spider I feel so very small and the spider seems so huge. I
don’t feel scarred when I see a mouse, snake or any other animal and when I come across
a spider I think: „Why is it not a mouse? Why do I always find spiders and not mise for
example”. This is terrible.

2. Three (3) definitions of socialization

Socialization is how we learn the norms and beliefs of our society. From our earliest
family and play experiences, we are made aware of societal values and expectations. Is
the process through which people are taught to be proficient members of a society. It
describes the ways that people come to understand societal norms and expectations, to
accept society’s beliefs, and to be aware of societal values. Socialization is not the same
as socializing(interacting with others, like family, friends, and coworkers); to be precise,
it is a sociological process that occurs through socializing

3. What are the agents of Socialization

Family

Family is the first agent of socialization. Mothers and fathers, siblings and grandparents,
plus members of an extended family, all teach a child what he or she needs to know. For
example, they show the child how to use objects (such as clothes, computers, eating
utensils, books, bikes); how to relate to others (some as “family,” others as “friends,” still
others as “strangers” or “teachers” or “neighbors”); and how the world works (what is
“real” and what is “imagined”). As you are aware, either from your own experience as a
child or from your role in helping to raise one, socialization includes teaching and learning
about an unending array of objects and ideas.

Peer Groups

A peer group is made up of people who are similar in age and social status and who share
interests. Peer group socialization begins in the earliest years, such as when kids on a
playground teach younger children the norms about taking turns, the rules of a game, or
how to shoot a basket. As children grow into teenagers, this process continues. Peer groups
are important to adolescents in a new way, as they begin to develop an identity separate
from their parents and exert independence. Additionally, peer groups provide their own
opportunities for socialization since kids usually engage in different types of activities
with their peers than they do with their families. Peer groups provide adolescents’ first
major socialization experience outside the realm of their families. Interestingly, studies
have shown that although friendships rank high in adolescents’ priorities, this is balanced
by parental influence.

School

Most U.S. children spend about seven hours a day, 180 days a year, in school, which
makes it hard to deny the importance school has on their socialization (U.S. Department of
Education 2004). Students are not in school only to study math, reading, science, and other
subjects—the manifest function of this system. Schools also serve a latent function in
society by socializing children into behaviors like practicing teamwork, following a
schedule, and using textbooks.

Mass Media

Mass media distribute impersonal information to a wide audience, via television,

newspapers, radio, and the Internet. With the average person spending over four hours a
day in front of the television (and children averaging even more screen time), media
greatly influences social norms (Roberts, Foehr, and Rideout 2005). People learn about
objects of material culture (like new technology and transportation options), as well as
nonmaterial culture—what is true (beliefs), what is important (values), and what is
expected (norms).
