Students will be able to subtract mixed numbers. Do frequent checks for understanding.

Complete Lesson along with Independent Practice
worksheet with whole class understanding. Hopefully
have enough time for students to begin homework.
This will allow them to get assistance if needed.

I will be assessing students during guided math and again as
we work on the independent practice together. They will be
assessed on the work they do within the classroom. As
students work in the classroom I will help where I am
needed. However, I do not want to make them feel pressured
that they must get it right and understand it right away.

II. INSTRUCTION
A. Opening
Prior Students will use their prior knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions, problem-solving
knowledge investigation, along with adding mixed numbers skills to help them develop their knowledge base of
connection: how to subtract mixed numbers.

Closure: Discuss the lesson with students checking for understanding. Ask “How do you subtract mixed
numbers?” The answer would be “You can subtract them by writing them as an equivalent improper
fraction.”
