PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Hillside High School, Durham, NC August 2017 – Present


School Counseling Intern
 Interned at a Title 1 school supporting at-risk students in a school that has 70% students qualifying for free and
reduced lunch.
 Worked within a comprehensive school counseling program that follows the ASCA National Model.
 Demonstrated a variety of theories such as reality therapy, solution focused brief counseling, cognitive behavioral
therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy in individual counseling sessions.
 Delivered classroom guidance to over 400 freshman students discussing how to calculate grade point average,
navigate social media safely, and set up a resume and high school portfolio.
 Conducted group counseling that focused on study skills and goal setting strategies.
 Consulted with parents about their student’s performance and overall experience at the high school.
 Presented a parent workshop on the importance of postsecondary readiness, and preparing students for life after
high school. This included information about financial aid, college options, the workforce, and the military.
 Collaborated with an MTSS team to reach students with performance and attendance concerns.
 Worked directly with faculty that provide accommodations and modifications. This includes IEPs, 504s, EC case
managers, OCS coordinators, and IB coordinators.
 Took groups of 40 freshman students on college tours to public and private universities, community colleges, and
historically black college and universities.

Athens Drive High School, Raleigh, NC December 2014 – April 2017


Music Instructor
 Worked with over 100 high school percussion students over the course of four years.
 Spent 20 hours a week leading rehearsals and preparing students for national competition.
 Helped to develop students’ musical ability, as well as their work ethic, teamwork, and identification of personal
strengths.
