CREATIVE THINKING : HOW TO GET OUT OF THE BOX AND

GENERATE IDEAS.

Sometimes, easy task is very difficult to do . for example, when boss ask us

to give creative idea, and think out of the box, it seems easy, but actually

very hard to do. Why we need to think outside the box? It is not luxury, it’s

a necessity for our dignity in human being. The box is not our mind.

Because, we cannot think out of our mind.

Whenever we think inside the box, we feel safe, whatever outside, its

invisible to us. We don’t know what is outside. That’s why its so risky,

because nobody else knows.

How do we go out of the box?

We need to add something more, a little spice, something which go beyond

the convergent information, something wrong, something absub, something

apparently is not relevant, something which takes us far, this is what we

called divergent information. We need a little bit of that divergent

information. We need a little bit of that divergent information to cross the

borders between our mind from what we know to what we haven’t yet

thought about.

So this is sential mechanism that necessary and it takes us to plays where

we don’t really know where to go. We are suspended. Its like we in the

middle game in chess. Where do you go once they out of the box, you have

no preset direction, so its potential situation that brings us to feelings that

we should immediately go back. This does not make any sense, lets go

back to safe place, lets go back inside of the box. That is temptation that

we need to resist.

We need to value long thinking. We can use association of ideas,

combination of ideas. We need to be open-minded, we need to be fluent,

look for alternative and not for the correct answer. Because when you think

creatively, there are no correct answer. There are many possible

alternative.
We are social animals, we live in environment, so to think out of the box,

bring in new ideas is gone to challenge the environment . for example, if we

are the boss, we don’t want to upset him or her. When it is good idea to

think outside the box? If the environment is punishes mistakes you will

never be tend to go out of the box. You will remain safely in a known

environment. If you want to stimulate an environment which is creative, you

need to allow the existence of divergent information.

You need to allow irrelevant information to come in. you have to mix and

match disciplines, you have to use metaphore in the organization. On in

that environment you will allow the environment to be really proud to the

generation of new ideas.

A quick jump out of the box is more insightful than lifetime of standard

thinking.
