III. Principles of distance education from students’ perspective

 Organization and effective time management skills are key to progress.


 Permanent internet access and technological literacy are essential.
 Autonomous study and learning are cornerstones of distance education.
 When necessary, students have to be available for group work and collaborative sessions.
 Students must self-evaluate their learning process.

IV. Course Description

The course comprises 12 units that will allow students to develop the four basic skills of language: listening,
speaking, reading and writing, to level B1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
They will be encouraged to converse in English, and write texts, such as summaries. Students will have the
opportunity to apply their knowledge of the English language through a variety of exercises and activities.

V. Course Objectives

 To achieve level B1 at the end of the course, thus being able to speak with a degree of fluency, understand
abstract and concrete topics in the language of instruction, as well as write information by expressing
different points of view.
 Students should master a core of vocabulary.
 Give the student the skills he/she needs to communicate accurately, meaningfully, and appropriately in
different situations and settings.
 Students will use language according to its different functions.
 Develop and expand the student’s writing skills through guided activities.

 Attendance and participation is required (even though attendance is not mandatory).
 The minimum passing grade for homework/activities is 49 points, and includes participation and
homework accomplishment.
 The minimum passing grade for exams is 21 points.

 To take the make-up test (SUPLETORIO) you must reach the minimum grade in ONE of the two

Four hours of synchronous online classes will be held each week, divided in two two-hour periods. This time
will be used by the teacher to apply and explain the theory learnt during the independent learning. Two more
hours will be planned to let students work autonomously.
Teaching: The aim of this weekly four-hour period is to develop the students’ knowledge, their skills and
values.
Practice and application of knowledge: practices could be: forums, blogs, role-plays, group work activities,
etc. (one hour).
Independent learning: Students will use the English platform to work on its academic activities to apply what is
learnt in virtual classes. (One hour).
