SERGIO MORENO

To begin with, I would like to say that my views on teaching are not necessarily typical,
however, I will explain in this essay exactly what my ideals are and why I whole-
heartedly believe in them. When asking people what they thinkt about the topic of
teaching there are many different ideas and philosophies. My teaching philosophy is
definitely a little different from the norm, and, in my view, the most common and
popular methods of teaching are not necessarily the best.
I love sport, which is why I want to be a physical education teacher, using sport
as a way of teaching and leaning. I think that sport can improve many different aspects
of our lives. For instance, it can improve our health, which often leads to a longer and
more fulfilling life. Next it can improve our interpersonal relationships, as having a
healthy body often leads to a feeling of a ´healthier mind´. Lastly, it can give us a
generally better quality of life, as excercising leads to endorphens being released in the
brain which evoke happinesss. All of these reasons contribute to why sport is my
passion.
The standard way to teach in the high schools of Spain is ''hear, see, silence, take
notes and test". In my opinion this isn't the best way for students to learn because this
method does not favour the development of critical consciousness; there is no creativity,
no team work or decision making, and there is no need to manage our emotions, which I
believe is a hugely important part of the educational process. On the whole they feed
students information with little student participation, often leading to a disinterested and
demotivated classes.
My teaching philosophy will be based on giving my students a different school
experience based on the enjoyment of learning. This will allow and encourage personal
and professional growth thanks to an enriching experience different from the traditional
method of learning. I hope that my method of teaching will captivate students and make
them enthusiastic to come to my class and learn every day.
For my philosophy to be put in place it is important to understand the role of the
professor himself, and to understand that it isn´t strictly his job to teach, rather, to
ensure that the students learn. That is why we focus on the model of students having an
excellent learning experience that is both interesting and attractive to them.
To sum up, my teaching philosophy would be based on the use of sport as the
main tool to improve in my students critical awareness, creativity, teamwork, decision
making and control of their emotions. All of these aspects are vital for personal and
professional growth. I believe it is paramount that students in my class use something
they enjoy, in this case sport, to aid their learning. If they are passionate about sport and
can feel the professor shares the same passion there will be a mutual respect and a
fruitful learning environment.

 Philosophy Key Points:

o Sport (this will be the main tool for teaching and learning)
o The improvement of critical awareness, the ability to be creative, to work as
part of an efficient team, and good decision making based on being able to
maintain control of our emotions.
o The overall goal of the class will be to increase the students personal and
professional growth to make the transition from student to employee as
smooth as possible.
