Technology Evaluation Tool

What is the learning goal? Students to learn the difference between cochlear implants and hearing aids through the Powtoon I created. Also to
learn about this through an animation without me having to present all the material.

Strengths of this app or web-based resource:

It’s different than just making a powerpoint. I like that I can do voice overs, videos, pictures from the web, and the website, also I can create it to fit my personal
use.
Weaknesses:
You only get a 5 min video for the free Powtoon. Which is a bummer, because it doesn’t tell you until you’re over the 5 min. Also I don’t like how the slides can
only be 20 seconds each.

Prerequisite skills needed to engage with the app/resources

Need to understand how to work a computer and the tools bar.

Next steps: ( Would you use this technology?, where, when, how)

I actually like this technology, not sure if I will use it everyday or every Unit, but I really like the added difference it will make.

I really try to make my lessons different and full of a variety of teaching methods. During which, I also incorporate an assortment of
technology at least once a week. These don’t include the asl video the students are supposed to be able to understand. I was creating
a PowerPoint that included links, and videos for my class to see the different languages within sign language, one of my students who
was in the class asked what I was making. I informed them “it’s a fun PowerPoint for tomorrow’s lesson”. After I presented the material
for that lesson, I asked the student what they thought…. “It was fine, but it was kinda boring”. Instead of me standing up there telling
word for word what they mean, I tried (keyword) to make the class more involved and engaged in what the different languages were. I
realized my kind of engaging and fun is not always the same.. Unfortunately. The area my students are in need of, is to be excited to
learn again, to be taught something and actually retain it from the technology. I’m going to create a powtoon. Instead of me standing in
front of the class, there will be fun animations and characters to teach them, while still using my voice.
