Book of Lo (Lo Shu)

Many theories of Feng Shui were said to be inspired by two very interesting and mysterious diagrams called River Map ( ) and Lo Shu ( ).

Hsia Yu & the Lo Shu

Legends attribute China prehistoric personality, Hsia Yu ( ) - he who tamed the Yellow River of floods ( ) to be the one who discovered the Lo Shu.

Yu saw some very interesting markings on the shell of a giant tortoise that emerged from the River Lo in Central China. This became Lo Shu. A reproduction of the original
Lo Shu diagram is found below:

Lo Shu is often drawn in the form of a 9-square chart with each square representing a direction in the compass (see diagram below) namely North, South, East, West,
Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and the center (total 9 locations).
Numbers & Their Meanings

The numbers in each square of the Lo Shu embrace a variety of meanings. Just to name a few:

Lo Shu Representing Representing Representing

Numbers Location Colour Element
1 North White Water
2 Southwest Black Earth
3 East Pure Green Wood
4 Southeast Light Green Wood
5 Central Dull Yellow Earth
6 Northwest White Metal
7 West Red Metal
8 Northeast White Earth
9 South Purple Fire

The sum of each line (whether vertical, horizontal or diagonal) always equals fifteen. In other words, if you ignore the 5 in the center, you will notice that the number
opposite each other all sums up to 10. (The River Map uses the difference while the Lo Shu Square uses the sum).

Similar to the River Map, the odd numbers (white dots) represents Yang and the even numbers (black dots) represents Yin.
Apart from the 5 in the center, the Lo Shu numbers are arranged such that after every Yang number, a Yin number follows, and, after every Yin number comes a Yang
number.

Running in a clockwise direction starting from the centre (Earth), the combinations flow in the same manner as that of found in the cycle of destruction (Earth [5] destroys
Water [1 & 6 in the River Map], Water destroys Fire [2 & 7 in the River Map], Fire destroys Metal [4 & 9 in the River Map], Metal destroys Wood [3 & 8 in the River Map],
Wood destroys Earth and so on). The above explanation allows one to observe the pattern on how the Lo Shu numbers flow using the number combinations in the River
Map.

THE MIRACLES OF LAXMI-YANTRA THE L0-SHU MAGIC SQUARE

We all know that every human being wants to attain Health, Wealth & Happiness. But in spite of best efforts very few people in the world are satisfied with their
achievements. We go to a Astrologer for changing our luck but unavailability of exact time of birth oft proves a constraint to get accurate diagnosis of our problems &
remedies thereof.

Consultations with a Vasstu expert also does not help always; since most of us have our limitations to make additions/alteration in the properties.
This is particularly true in case of Govt. accommodations, rented premises, apartments, flats, society accommodations, floors etc.
Here is a simple, uncontroversial, practical, least expensive yet effective system to understand your deeper nature, your talents and life goals, your hidden characteristic,
opportunities& challenges. It has been churned out form the deep ocean of ancient knowledge and offer is a self-help tool, providing a way to gain greater insight and
understanding into your inner being and true nature. There is recorded evidence of numerology's use ten thousand years ago it was in use in our ancient cultures of Greece,
China, Rome and Egypt as well.
The technique is based on a chart also shown as Loshu-Grid in Chinese Literature. Its genesis has taken place from the Lakshmi Yantra. It is shaped like a tortoise-just like
Kachchhap, the second incarnation of Lord Vishnu; the husband of Laxmi, the Golden of wealth, as per all Indian mythological texts.

In this grid, many groups formed by 1 to 9 numbers have been analyzed and wonderful experience/feedback received during our practice of last 3 decades. In this grid, the
total of all numbers when they are added up vertically or straight, horizontally, downwards, diagonally or sideways, comes to be 15 only. This grid is also known as a
miraculous (Magic Square) grid and it is also believed that it compensates the missing energies in one's date of birth and it also enhances the luck of the house as well as
that of the person.

Let us study this grid minutely and try to understand why

it is so important.
No-1 Represent Water-element HOW TO USE THE 'Laxmi-Yantra'
Nos 2, 5,8 Represent Earth-element Let us, for example, take July 12, 1977 as the date of birth. Put the numbers of the date of birth in the Loshu-
grid in the following manner:
Nos3,4 Represent Wood-element
Nos 6, 7 Represent Metal-element
No 9 Represent Fire-element

We see that-
(a) In the chart, 3 and 4 numbers (the representatives of the wood-element) are not there. So, there will be a lack of progress in life.
What is the remedy? To make up for the lack of numbers 3 and 4 (wood-element), wear good quality of Rudraksha bead or any wooden bracelet and use wooden body
pen.
(b) Numbers 5 and 8 (the representatives of the earth¬ element, are not there in the chart. So, the person concerned will not be effective in his speech and activities. So, he
or she will not be able to get success in life.
Remedy: Wear a necklace of silica. Light up a yellow bulb in the middle of the room. Put up posters of the Himalayas or some other high mountain (without showing the river
or any other water-source) in the south-western corner of your bedroom and the office. For strength and stability.
(c) Number 6 (the representative of the metal-element) is not there in the chart. It means that the person concerned will lack friends and supporters. He or she will have to
struggle on his or her own for progress in life.
Remedy: Wear a bracelet of the yellow metal in your hand or wear a watch with a yellow strap. Generally, women wear golden bangles or bracelet. So, they never face this
problem. Hang golden or yellow wind-chimes with five rods in the (North-West) part of the house or the office and keep an energised yellow or golden pyramid in the north-
west.
In this chart, the entire line of 3, 4 and 8 numbers is invisible. It means that this person will feel shy of asking for anything in his life.
From the following table, we will find out as to which element is lacking in a particular date of birth and what is the remedy for that the chart will also give in brief the effect of
a particular direction in our day to day life.

History
The square is known as Lo-shu Grid in Chinese Numerology. The Lo Shu Square 3x3 is a magic square. Chinese literature dating from as early
as 2800 BC tells the legend of Lo Shu or "scroll of the river Lo". In ancient China, there was a huge flood. The people tried to offer some
sacrifice to the river god of one of the flooding rivers, the Lo river, to calm his anger. Then, there emerged from the water a turtle with a curious
figure/pattern on its shell, which at the time was considered to be a very auspicious omen. It is also known as laxmi yantra in India. This square
was remarkable because every horizontal, vertical, and diagonal row added up to 15. Fifteen is the number of days between the new moon and
full moon respectively. The number five is highly regarded in ancient china and this magic square contained a five number in the center of this
lo-shu grid.

Practice: Cycle of Birth & Destruction

The cycle of birth and cycle of destruction form the basics of the art of destiny analysis. To learn this art requires not only memorising work but
also lively applications. Many beginners find it easy to memorise the two cycles but experience difficulties when being questioned. Take the
following questions for example:

1. What is the relationship between water and fire?

2. What is the relationship between earth and metal?

3. What is the relationship between water and metal?

4. What is the relationship between earth and wood?

The questions above seemed simple. Water destroys fire while earth produces metal. Water is being produced by metal while earth is being
destroyed by wood. Some of you might get the answers wrong if you only think in one direction. Question 3 and 4 is being phrased in the passive
way instead of the active way.

Cycle of Birth (Active/produce) - Metal -> Water -> Wood -> Fire -> Earth

Cycle of Birth (Passive/produced by) - Metal -> Earth -> Fire -> Wood -> Water

Cycle of Destruction (Active/destroy) - Metal -> Wood -> Earth -> Water -> Fire

Cycle of Destruction (Passive/destroyed by) - Metal -> Fire -> Water -> Earth -> Wood

The above gets more complex when we involves the third party. Try the following question:

What is the relationship between water, fire and earth?

Water is like a young gangster trying to bully (destroy) fire. Threatened by water, the weak fire (like a young school kid) turns to the gangster
boss (earth) for help. With the help of earth, water dare not attack fire (earth destroys water, like the gangster boss dealing with the young
gangster). However, in return of the favour, fire (the young school) must agree to whatever the gangster boss say (fire produces earth).

Of course I am just trying to illustrate the relationship in an interesting way (well, ok, if you find it irritating, I apologise :P). The actual story is
that water destroy fire but in return get destroyed by earth. Fire is being destroyed by water and at the same time must produces earth. Earth
destroys water and get produced by fire. The big winner here is earth, which gets nourished by fire although exhausted a bit of its energy, trying
to destroy water. The loser here would be fire, for it is not only being destroyed by water but also loses its energy, trying to produce earth.

Do not restrict yourself to think about "how can fire produces earth since it is already destroyed by water?" and stuffs like that. Remember my
analogy of the gangster, the school boy and the gangster boss earlier? Picture the poor school boy as fire. He gets bullied by the gangster (played
by Water). Although he get protected by the gangster boss (played by Earth), but he has also 'sell' himself to the gangster boss. Sad case isn't it?
Sigh~ Hey! That's not the main focus! Come back! You get my point? You do, don't you? :P

Relationships with Other Elements

Having known your self element, it is essential to know the relationship of your self element with the other elements.

Using the example of a person with Fire as the day element (and as the centre of focus),

First of all, we have elements that are same as us. In this case, the element is Fire. We refer these similar fire elements
as Friends/Competitors (?? ??).

Fire produces Earth. In Destiny Analysis, the ideas and thoughts generated by a Fire person are like his assets. These ideas and thoughts of a fire
person are termed Unconventional/Conventional Intelligence (?? ??).

Fire conquers Metal, and that makes Metal the property of Fire. A person's wealth is measured by what he owns (property etc) and therefore,
metal is refer as Direct/Indirect Wealth (?? ??) of a Fire person.

Water puts off Fire. Water, is like the superior/boss of Fire. Water has the power to keep fire under control. However, if the boss is too demanding
(water is too strong), this becomes pressure. Water is referred asPower/Pressure (?? ??) to a Fire person.

Wood provides fuel to nourish Fire, and that makes Wood the Resource of Fire. We refer these resource elements as Direct/Indirect
Resource (?? ??) to a fire person

Depending on your Day Element, the elements representing your Five Constants in Life (Five Constants refer to
Friends, Intelligence, Wealth, Power and Resource) will differ.

The tables listed below clearly illustrate the relations of the other elements with the Day Element.
To a Fire Person:

His Intelligence Element is represented by Earth

His Wealth Element is represented by Metal

His Power Element is represented by Water

His Resource Element is represented by Wood

His Friend Element is represented by Fire

To an Earth Person:

His Intelligence Element is represented by Metal

His Wealth Element is represented by Water

His Power Element is represented by Wood

His Resource Element is represented by Fire

His Friend Element is represented by Earth

To a Metal Person:

His Intelligence Element is represented by Water

His Wealth Element is represented by Wood

His Power Element is represented by Fire

His Resource Element is represented by Earth

His Friend Element is represented by Metal

To a Water Person:

His Intelligence Element is represented by Wood

His Wealth Element is represented by Fire

His Power Element is represented by Earth

His Resource Element is represented by Metal

His Friend Element is represented by Water

To a Wood Person:

His Intelligence Element is represented by Fire

His Wealth Element is represented by Earth

His Power Element is represented by Metal

His Resource Element is represented by Water

His Friend Element is represented by Wood

Using the Five Constants, we eliminates the need to repeat the relationship five times for five different elements.

For example,

Instead of saying...

For a fire person:

Wood (Resource) produces Fire (Self),
Fire (Self) produces Earth (Intelligence),
Earth (Intelligence) produces Metal (Wealth),
Metal (Wealth) produces Water (Power),
Water (Power)produces Wood (Resource).

We say...

Resource (Wood) produces Self (Fire),

Self (Fire) produces Intelligence (Earth),
Intelligence (Earth) produces Wealth (Metal),
Wealth (Metal) produces

Power (Water),
Power (Water) produces Resource (Wood).

If you can absorb any further, try the following:

Intelligence destroy Power,
Power destroys Self,
Self destroys Wealth, Every number will have mental and spiritual plane represented by its top half part and the material worldly affairs are represented by its remaining bottom part.

Wealth destroys Resource,

Resource destroys Intelligence.

In Numerology, certain number has been fixed for each of the nine planets. In other words, each of the nine planets have been assigned a
particular number. Some experts, however, do not allot Rahu and Ketu, any position in Numerology. Instead, they assign two numbers- one
positive and one negative to the sun and the moon. The negative numbers assigned to the sun and the moon represent Rahu and Ketu
respectively.
The following table depicts the numbers assigned to the nine planets:

PYRAMID NUMBER
To calculate the pyramid number, the name of the person is written in English. Now, the numbers allotted to each of the letters are also written.
To follow the procedure of calculating the pyramid number, see the example given here, carefully:

Starting from the first digit on the left hand, each digit is first multiplied by its next digit and the result is written below then in pyramidal fashion. If
the result has two figures, these are added to get a single digit. Thus, a single row of digits gives a next row, containing a digit less than it. The
second row gives birth to the third and the third gives rise to the fourth and so on, until, at last, a single digit is obtained at the top of the inverted
pyramid. This digit is the pyramid number.

IS YOUR NAME FAVOURABLE?
An old proverb says: “Its all in the name.” But the question is: : How favourable is one’s name? If it ever proves helpful for the person?
Sound is a form of waves that require a medium, like air, water, to travel. Whenever a sound is produced, it leaves a special effect on the
ambience and on the listener. Pronunciation of name, similarly leaves an effect on the mind of the listener. This effect depends on the waves
generated because of pronunciation of syllables present in the name. With the intensity of the vibration, effect of the name also varies. As soon
as we hear a name, a face conjures up in our mind. A name that appears formidable to hear, almost always leads to conjuring up of a
formidable face.
Thus, the name of a person can be very much favourable or unfavourable for him. Numerology helps us to know if our name is favourable for
us.
According to Numerology, a name is favourable only when its number agrees well with the root number, fate number, pyramid number and
compound number. If it does not agree, it is definitely unfavourable for you. Suppose, your name is Manoj and your date of birth is 25th
December, 1965.
From the principles of Numerology,
your root number is 2+5=7 and
fate number is: 2+5+1+2+1+9+6+5=31=3+1=4 and
your name number is M A N O J
MANOJ

and pyramid number is:
MANOJ

and compound number is: 7+4+9+1=2+1=3.
Your root number is 7. It is the positive number for the moon.
Some experts link it with Neptune and still others associate it with Ketu.
And your fate number is 4, it is friendly with 7. But your name number is 9, which is governed by Mars. It is not friendly with 7 your root number.
In other words, your name is unfavourable for you. Hence, it is advisable that you change your name or certain syllables of it in order to make it
suitable for you.
