Beginner to Pro
Lecture 19: Easy Right Hand System

This is also simple but sounds like a million bucks almost always. It’s
formed by putting the 5th interval on the bottom and top, with the root in
the middle. I call it 5-1-5. Here it is in the key of C

R1 R2 R5

G C G

5th(5) Root (1) 5th (5)

NOTE: These exact notes are played even when the chords change. You
keep the 5-1-5 pattern going throughout the song. There is one exception.

When you come to a 2m7 chord, you need to raise the bottom 5 to a 6. Like
this in F.

R1 R2 R5

A C G

6th(6) Root (1) 5th (5)

Closing thoughts; Find the 5-1-5 for the key you are in first. Remember, when the chords change, you
ONLY change the left hand using the easy left hand system following the chords. But stay on the
5-1-5 notes in the right. From there you are solid. That is until you come to a 2m (or 2m7) chord. Then
you would play the 4-1-5 pattern for that chord only. Got it?

Homework: Practice playing some worship songs with a chord chart using this system. This works like
a charm. It even sounds more contemporary than playing the actual chords. It will transform your
playing.
