DEAR STUDENTS AND VETS

World Veterinary Day (WVD) is celebrated on the last Saturday of every
April. This year World Veterinary Day will be observed on April 28. A large
part of the world population lives in rural areas where animals are
indispensable for their livelihood and access to food . Many farmers in these
areas depend on animals as the main source of income. For numerous
households, animals are also the best means to preserve the necessary
resources to cope with agricultural crises, to exit poverty, or to help to keep
the soil fertile and provide traction for ploughing and transport.
It is estimated that the world population will reach 9.7 billion people by
2050 and the demand for animal protein and by-products will grow respec-
tively. By preventing and controlling animal diseases, veterinarians play a
crucial role in securing sufficient and safe high-quality food, improving the
health and welfare of people and animals. They contribute to ensure the
existence of sufficient resources for future generations by supporting the
development of sustainable, responsible and efficient livestock production
systems.
Furthermore, the veterinary profession is responsible for the control and
inspection of animal products at all stages "from farm to fork" to guarantee
safe food to the world population. It also positively impacts a wide range of
employment fields that deliver services for the benefit of society and all
animals.
Each year, the WVA and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) choose
a theme. The theme of World Veterinary Day 2018, is "The role of the
veterinary profession in sustainable development to improve livelihoods,
food security, and safety."

ABOUT IVA MANNUTHY_ _ _ _ _ __

Indian Veterinary Association (IVA), Mannuthy unit has been functioning
since 1978 at College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Mannuthy.
Presently this unit has around 200 members . Indian Veterinary Association,
CVAS, Mannuthy has always in the forefront in promoting Veterinary
Science, upgrading professional efficiency and competence. The Associa-
tion upholds and safeguards the dignity, honor, rights and interest of the
profession and assures unity among veterinarians.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/ARTICLE _ _ __

Indian Veterinary Association invites scientific abstracts and articles from
UG & PG students, faculty, scientists and field veterinarians for poster
presentation . The abstract (not more than 500 words) or article (not more
than three pages) should be submitted on or before 15/04/2018 to
email id: ivacovasmannuthy@gmail.com .
Acceptance of abstracts/article will be duly intimated by 201h April 2018.
The authors of selected papers will be given an opportunity to present their
paper on the day ofthe seminar as poster presentations. In addition to this,
the selected papers from those submitted will also be included in the
seminar proceedings and a 'Certificate of Participation' would be awarded
to all the participants. Abstracts/article received after the due date will not
be included in the seminar compendium . 90 cm X 120 cm size area will be
provided for each participants for poster presentation .

NATIONAL LEVEL QUIZ COMPETITION _ _

Indian Veterinary Association, Mannuthy is organizing the ist National Level
Quiz competition along with World Veterinary Day 2018 celebration . The
quiz will include Veterinary undergraduate level syllabus along with current
affairs and general knowledge.The undergraduates from several veterinary
colleges all over India are expected to participate.
Looking forward for the participation of team from your college/ institute

RULES
• Each college can send maximum three teams.
• Each team will be comprised of two students.
•All veterinary undergraduates including interns are eligible .
• Participation fee: Rs. 500 per team payable during registration
• Last date of registration : 15/04/2018
•There will be a screening round
• Only one team will be selected from each college/university to
final round a after the screening round .
•Award money is up to INR 25,000/-
