Pros
 Require the student to learn quickly in
order to keep up with the class.
 Increase the possibility of the child of
becoming fully bilingual at a young
age.
 Refrains from alienating (causing a
sense of non-belonging) by separating
them from the rest of the class.
Immersion method and its influence in
Memory
 Rapid and intense language input works
more at a sensory register & at the
working memory level.
 the speed is likely to impede a normal
pace of content assimilation.
 When cognitive load is high, working
memory capacity may be insufficient for
effective problem processing. ( K.Lee et
al.)
 May present encoding difficulties
 May Increase the rote learning instead of
the meaningful learning.
 May difficult long- term memory
retrieval and consolidation due the high
level of language input.
Cons
 The rapid method can be discouraging
when struggles with understanding are
present daily which can influence
behavior.
 Create alienation. (loss of sense of identity
when speaking & with culture.
 Language growth can stagnate when
understanding is not fully complete and
when the expansion of learning takes
another via.
 The rapid mainstream ignores that it takes
5 to 7 or more years for students to pick
up academic language needed to survive
in grade-level classes.
Motivation
 May lower intrinsic motivation due to
exhaustion.
 May create short span of attention due
to difficulties understanding the content.
 Is likely to create a low self- efficacy
when students find difficulties in using
the second language appropriately
according to the norms of the society.
 This may convert to work- avoidance or
doing just enough to pass the course.
