1. SCOPE
This Method Statement covers the procedures for supply and installation of Carpet
at Prayer Hall at SIP project. The method statement has been prepared in line
with the requirements and all relevant safety practices to make the work place
safer.

7. TASK INSTRUCTIONS
TI is given to each person assigned to the work. Supervisors shall analyze all
hazards and then ensure that adequate prevention/protection systems are in
place. Prior to any work commencing supervisors will actively ask their staffs
knowledge of the system being utilized, its proper methods of use and
emergency procedures associated with the task.

8. PROCEDURES
All necessary work permits for the execution of the job shall be obtained
prior to commencement of the job and e ns ur e that all equipment to be
used have been inspected to comply with project HSE requirements.
The area will be barricaded and only authorized personals w i l l be
allowed to enter the work area. Safety barricades and information signs
shall be provided indicating the hazards and safe access shall be
maintained in all cases.
Tool box talk / Task Instruction shall be carried out by supervisor
identifying all the hazards and control measures.
Arrangements for temporary power supply shall be done.
Room closing/diverted traffic signs shall be displayed (if required) and job
premises to be properly barricaded.
I. MATERIAL APPROVAL:
Carpet material such as carpet, carpet tiles, under lay, etc. should be
approved by QP engineer.
The entire socket out lets, duct covers and the like around which carpet
needs to be cut have been fixed.
The substrate on which the carpet is laid should be dry and clean.

Carpet shall be cut and fitted to all socket outlets and other fixtures and
shall be cut in all the doorways and recesses. It shall not be pieced in.
Where practicable, room coverings shall start with a full width of carpet by
the side of door.

The gripper shall be fixed around the perimeter of the area to be covered
leaving a gap approximately two thirds of the thickness of the carpet which
shall be stretched into position over the gripper using a knee kicker or
power stretcher as appropriate to form a neat rolled edge.
Binder bar shall be used at all free edges of carpet and double binder bar
shall be used where carpets of a different type, color or pattern meet.
Single or double binder bar appropriate shall be used at all doorways
situated under the centre line the door leaf .
At stairs the pile of the carpet shall be towards the bottom. Gripper shall be
fixed to the bottom of all risers and to the adjacent horizontal surface of the
tread.
Fiber bonded, high density foam backed carpet and carpet where the
manufacturer specifically so recommended shall be fully bonded to the sub
floor using QP approved peel up adhesive applied in accordance with the
manufacturer recommendations.
Joints in the carpet shall be bonded with a joining adhesive recommended
by the manufacturer of the carpet and shall parallel to one main axis of the
room.
Where applicable care shall be taken to ensure that:
a) The pile is laying in the same direction.
b) The pattern matches where a repeating motif occurs.
c) The pile is not caught down into the joint.
d) The joints are straight.
Adhesive marks shall be removed from the carpet and other exposed
surfaces as the work proceeds.
At stairs the pile of the carpet shall be towards the bottom. The carpet shall

be folded under any exposed edges and fixed to each tread as one
continuous piece unless a nosing is provided
Edge trim or dividing strips shall be used at all free edges of carpet and
double binder bar shall be used where carpets of a different type, color or
pattern meet.
On completion of the installation , all loose rap ends shall be trimmed , the
carpet shall be cleaned with a beater type vacuum cleaner and covered
with clean dust sheets, hardboard, ect, as necessary to prevent damage
from dust and traffic until handover.
All carpets shall be installed by skilled operatives only, so that it is flat and
sufficiently taut to ensure that movement of furniture over the surface does
not cause rucking to take place.
