    Calendar of Mini-Lessons

    Day 1: Students will read and analyze an article by NewsELA titled, Would Giving Teachers Guns
    Help Protect Schools from Shooters?

    Day 2: Students will brainstorm ideas about how to make school safer. They will also write
    down their answer to two questions: 1) What is one thing you would change to make our
    school safer? 2) Would giving teachers gun help protect schools from shooters?

    Day 3: Students will share their responses with each other and elaborate on their points. I will
    reteach what it means to be a good listener.

    Day 4: Students will survey other members of the school community to show that this is an
    issue that impacts everyone. I also want students to have a better understanding of what
    members of their school community think about this issue.
