Warm-up 1.1. ​Setting the context:​ The T will bring a box
with a poster in it. She will pretend she is a
magician. She will do a trick, and to do this she’ll
ask sts to help her to say the magic words that
will make something appear (the poster) in the
box. She will use gestures to make sts
understand that the box was empty and that
then something appeared in it, magically.
1.1. T: Hello children! Do you like magic? 1.1. A wand, a box, a

Presentation 2.1. ​Setting the purpose for reading:​ The T will
stick on the bb pictures of the faces of Molly,
Luke and Finn and will elicit from sts the names
of the characters. Then, she will tell the sts that
Molly, Luke and Finn were at a carnival
yesterday and will ask them if they want to see
some pictures of the carnival. Once sts open
their books on the story, the T will ask questions
about the context of the story. After that, the T
will give the sts a copy with a true/false exercise.
They will read the sentences of the exercise out
loud in case sts have any questions.
2.1. T: Look! (the T sticks the pictures on the bb)... 2.1. Blackboard,

3.2. ​Semantic Systematization:​ The T will guide
sts towards realising the meaning of the verb “to
be” in the past simple form by asking them
questions.
3.3. ​Structural Systematization: Focus on form.
Question form:​ The T will guide the sts to the
structural systematization. She will write 2
sentences on the bb and will ask sts to compare
them to elicit the word order of question forms.
3.2. T: Look at these questions (T points to the 3.2. Blackboard, 2
questions written on the chart on the left part of the pictures of the
bb) and the picture. Are we talking about about characters (one
today or yesterday? (using body language) dressed normally

3.3.1. ​Structural Systematization: Focus on
form:​ The T will guide the sts. to the structural
systematization. She will ask sts to look at the
verbs in the “Yesterday” column. Then, she will
ask the sts. to group the questions into two
groups.
She will ask them why they are different, which
will lead to how each verb is to be used.
3.4. ​Eliciting the rule:​ The T will guide sts. to
elicit the grammatical rule for the verb “to be” in
question form for the 1st and 3rd person
3.3.1. T: Ok, now look at this column (pointing at the 3.3.1. Blackboard,
