PROCEDURE
Introduction
As they come in from changing: Warm up by takings shots around the gym.
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: participate in activities at game speed. It
is competitive but do not over do it, it is not the NBA

Low-Management Time: Basketball nets should be down already, and basketballs

can be brought out. Have the shot points written out on the board for a visual for
them to see.
Transition to Body: Bring everyone in to explain first activity,
Body
Learning Activity #1: Timed Dribbling Relay
They will be required to dribble (using a variety of dribble types) from the
baseline to half, back to the baseline before they give the balls to their partners.
They will be required to do this as quickly as they can while demonstrating
control of their dribble.
They will be timed to see how long it takes them to complete this drill.

The variations will be

- One basketball dribble left handed
- One basketball dribble right hand
- Two basketballs, high dribble
- Two basketballs, low quick dribble
- Two basketballs, cross-overs
- Two basketballs alternating heights

Learning Activity #2: Shell Defense game.

The students will be introduced to what a shell defense looks like, the components
of it and how it works.
This will focus on where to stand when your check has the ball, where to be when
you are one pass away, and two passes away. Offense will take turns slowly
passing the ball around to different players where the defense will then adjust to
the proper position.
After going over these fundamentals, we will move into the game portion of the
activity.
This involves an offensive team as well as a defensive team. It will be a half court
‘game’ where only the DEFENSE can get points.
If you score while on offense, your team gets to move to offense
While on defense, you get 1 point if you prevent the offense from scoring. If you
do so, you get to remain on defense to try and get another point.

We will play first team to 5 points wins.

Learning Activity 3: We are going to be doing a layup drill.

How it works is there are 4 people on the side lines (one at each respected foul
line)
The rest of the students will be in the layup line.
One person will have the ball in the layup line and will pass the ball to the first
person at the foul line, that person will pass the ball back to the one who started
with it, then they pass to the next person on the side line. You are NOT aloud to
dribble until you get the ball from the second person on the side line. You must
make as many layups as you can in a row.

The person who shoots the layup will join the first line of passers. And the last
person to get the pass will get the rebound and then pass to the next person and
the activity will continue.
The goal is to get as many layups IN A ROW in 2 minutes.

Learning Activity 4: 4 on 4 Game

Team captains will be assigned and asked to choose their teams. The teams will
then play a regulation game of basketball (shortened time, but regulation rules).
This should take up the remainder of class time. Have them focus on their
shooting and making good shot selections.

Closure
