Dear Search Committee,

It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Tyler King for the band director position at Worthingway
Middle School. Over the last seven years, I have had the opportunity to witness Mr. King’s
abilities as a band director and a leader in his community. I believe he would make a great
addition to your staff and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to your music
department.

In his time at Northridge, Mr. King has taken their small-school music program that was
completely underwhelming and turned it into a thriving and successful program that the
students take pride in being a part of. Under his direction, the Northridge Marching Band has
earned numerous superior ratings at both local and state events as well as class champion and
grand champion awards. The concert band has also been awarded superior ratings and
represented the school at state large group contest. Finally, Mr. King’s jazz program plays
throughout the community at special events and Derby Days to raise money for the school,
the music department, and to be ambassadors for the community.

Probably the most unnoticed part of what Mr. King does the best is his ability to recruit band
students and develop players at a very young age to be successful achieving higher level
literature. As a small school director, the middle school students are often made part of the
marching band. Mr. King teaches the middle school students to be a positive impact on the
bands overall sound and ability. He has created classroom programs that have inspired his
middle school band students to achieve high levels of performance success and prepare them
for excellence throughout all levels of their instrumental music schooling. It is because of Mr.
King’s success as a middle school director that the high school band is able to receive the
accolades and awards that they have accomplished over the years.

As a colleague Mr. King has always impressed me. His professionalism in all work situations
and his organization throughout all required tasks demonstrates the quality of his character.
Mr. King is always one of the first to arrive and last to leave and he dedicates himself to the
success of the program. He is innovative and he is also able to move away from any idea that
does not work.
